The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is kinda cool. A while back George released his original pitch for the books that he made to a publisher in 1993. It was way different than what he ended up writing and if you go and read it you'll see what I mean. It was gonna be a trilogy, and most of the story was quite different. But still, there were parts that were redacted from that release, as if they would still reveal information that was spoilery for the series as it ended up being written.

Well these dudes, using the power of the internet and technology, uncovered most of the redacted stuff from that pitch.

For those who are worried about potential spoilers, don't read this below

tl;dr the redacted portion said Bran was gonna end up king (at the end of the first book in this scenario where it was meant to be a trilogy) and he and Jon Snow were bitter enemies.

Fwiw I've speculated a long time that that final thing was very possible.

Who here wants to get pissed off again?

Oh dear lord this is gonna be a train wreck you can't turn away from.

I bet this gets killed before it gets off the ground. The vast majority of fans of that show hated the last season. I hated the last two.

I can't imagine going back and doing a sequel. Lord Jesus have mercy.

I thought this was a joke until I clicked the link.

Yeah, just seems odd and off.

But….I guess they are going to bank on the GOT fans that hated the ending buying into some new creative team besides the hated David and Dan on fixing the wrong of the final seasons.

And then banking on cameos and limited plot line call back roles from a lot of the other remaining living GOT cast members who aren’t successful enough to turn down appearances.

The big question is what type of approval/guidance do they need from the Big Man for where they take these characters?

Any?
All?

Is he going to shirk finishing the series to give them a Fire and Blood like outline of his vision for the Westerosi future?

If the show is actually successful, they can do a 6 season run starting in 2024 that finishes up before he’s even halfway through with A Dance of Spring

If it's a buddy comedy with Jon Snow and Tormund Giantsbane fighting crime north of the Wall, I'm in.

I've got zero interest in a Jon Snow sequel series with him (and you'd have to assume Tormund) dicking around on the other side of the wall where there are no threats left.

My initial reaction was simply....why?

But after some thought, there was a tiny, little kindling of excitement. Dare I say possibly even some hope. Why? The possibility that this may be able to rehabilitate the ending. Or open the door to more story telling post-ending. It was my favorite show, and I have yet to rewatch any of it since it ended....

Can it start with Jon being brought back to life and we just get a redo of season 7 and 8 please?

Oh I'm sure they've decided that maybe NOW they'd like to actually dig into the mysteries beyond the wall a little more and actually give that aspect of the story some depth so with a little hocus pocus and some exposition viola, there are still white walkers.

But I don't care now.

Fwiw I'd be cool with them just doing a cheap remake with whatever actors and starting from the end of season 4. Make Tyrion actually care about his dead ex wife and go from there.

You have to imagine there is zero chance they do that.
And that Jon would just be the starting point for important characters.

Perhaps it starts 5 years post S8 Finale with Jon at the Wall(tearing down sections or rebuilding sections) but things elsewhere in Westeros create motivation for the story to expand and him to leave the Wall.

Basically I'd give it a zero % odds of being just some Northern/Wall based story alone.

That final scene with that big dumb meeting in the dragon pit and then the following scene with Tyrion and the rest of the Masters of whatever (still can’t get over Bronn being Master of Coin) just killed any potential direct sequels with these characters.

LITERALLY the only thing they didn’t completely fuck from that standpoint is an Arya spin-off going west of Westeros, but that sounds horrible.

Iron Islands (or Dorne) didn’t opt for independence with the North at that big dumb meeting so any rebellion with them would be stupid.

Jon beyond the wall with the way the White Walker story finished is stupid.

Anything across the Narrow Sea would be stupid.

It’s all chalked unless they completely retcon the damage that 7 & 8 did.

I still get upset when I think about the fact that there was zero endgame payoff of Brans time travel and warging abilities.

Hold the door and then...nothing.

The biggest question mark really is what is left for the viewer to care about?

So much of the intrigue in GoT was who ends up on the throne, who dies along the way, what the hell are the white walkers doing, etc.

Like even if the story wrapped up very well a la Breaking Bad- now what's left for us to see?

As someone who only watched the last 3 seasons, when did this nonsense jump the shark?
