The Official Game of Thrones [A Song of Ice and Fire] Thread (includes spoilers)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I dunno, Cersei being the most heinous living human being dying from rocks fall on her head was up there too.

As others have said, she was basically Mega Hitler, and I didn't even get a payoff from seeing her die. I didn't even know that was the last scene, just a roof collapse and they are both gone.

She should have been skull fucked by a dragon, at the very least, and instead, no payoff.

Fucking shit, I cannot talk about this anymore. It's the worst payoff in TV history.

Did it not just feel, at the end, they were just doing stuff solely for the purpose of "surprise."

No one expected Cersei to die like that, so hey, let's have her die like that for no other reason than no one expects it. That was all they were taking into consideration at that point.

Personally, I always thought they changed the finale for Heady’s character because they liked her as an actress instead of being true to the character.

Or even Bakker if he could lay off the philosophical ramblings a bit. I find Bakker's writing to be among the best in the genre, but sometimes he gets a little too far up his own ass with his meanderings to the point where it feels like every character is constantly undergoing some sort of existential crisis.

Nailed it.

On the old Westeros board, there was a "four people who you'd invite to dinner" thread. My choices were Bakker, Gary Busey, Charles Barkley, and Jerry Seinfeld. I figured the interactions between those four would be a riot.

Bakker would go off on some very serious but long-winded philosophical points. Busey would try to contribute with his own ideas that would make zero sense, unintentionally pissing off Bakker. Barkley would deliberate aggravate Bakker ("man, that doesn't make a lick of sense. What's wrong with you?") , and Seinfeld would be the perfect shit-stirrer to keep it all going.

Obviously, I'm not a Bakker fan. :chuckle:

I’m enjoying Bakker because of how different it is. The second series he wrote delves a lot deeper into what exactly happened to the Nonmen and the tragedy that has become of their immortality. It’s some pretty unique stuff.

I really appreciate the concept of these immortal beings who have been crushed under the weight of their own memories to the point where only tragedy can remind them of those they once loved, and the idea that, should they ever come to love someone new, they then must kill them.

George had himself a bit of a blog post and it was probably his most important blog post in 10 years.

You’re going to make us look it up?

He says Stannis is the One True King, will crush the Boltons, Lannisters and the Walkers, and will usher in a period of peace and prosperity.

The back half of The Winds of Winter is his audit on the finances of the kingdom, and meditation on the new universal civil code to govern the reunified realm with the Rule of Law.

There is an annex describing Jon Snow's foreskin, and a recounting of the sumptuous banquet following the victory at King's Landing.

And this is only half of it.

Tl;Dr

George, in the most diplomatic way he can without torching bridges, went in quite a bit on the show.

He mentioned over and over again how different the books would be (I mean in a world where he finishes them. So not this one). He specifically calls out two characters by name, who he says are very, very different: Asha/Yara and Euron.

Those are just bullet points. It's worth a read, particularly if you hated the direction the show went in and still hold onto hope the books will come out.

Also, for the first time he actually mentions almost being done with at least a part of winds. He says he's just about to wrap up Tyrions arc. Also said he expects the book to be 300 pages longer than Dance.

starting to question if we ever even get TWOW let alone ADOS.

I’m guessing George is frantically replanning shit after the awful reaction to the shows ending, too. No way the endgame was THAT different to what he was going to do.

Unless Martin dies suddenly in the next few years, I definitely think we get Winds.

Almost no shot we get Dream, though, unless untangling the mess he's made for himself while writing Winds means the last book is a lot easier for him to put to paper. I'm not going to hold my breath on that, though.

Dude could croak any day honestly.

I’ve seen nothing that tells me TWOW is imminent, but I like your optimism.
