Re: Post info when Cavs make an announcement about Redd.

Here is a great article showing that the 22 million is all based in the last year and how if redd came to cleveland he could easily get it all back...http://cavaliers.mostvaluablenetwork.com/index.php?p=106 also there is an article on the cavs message board...saying redd rlly enjoyed the gund and there is a comment in there, and i did no post the comment either a guy said his friend works there and redd said im gonna bring my family out to these suite's..http://cavaliers.infopop.cc/eve/ubb.x/a/tpc/f/78710881/m/734103716/r/737104716#737104716

Re: Lebron is trying hard for redd

The Bucks have no feet to stand on when it comes to trading Redd in a sign and trade.

If Redd isnt going to resign, they gotta take basically whatever they can get or nothing at all.

Re: Post info when Cavs make an announcement about Redd.

cdt--i totally see where you are coming from. i dont think your friend would feed you b.s. if you knew him for 20 years.

Re: Lebron is trying hard for redd

To free agent Michael Redd, it's time to pick the money or the wins

BY TERRY PLUTO

Knight Ridder Newspapers

(KRT) - DEAR MICHAEL REDD:

The Cleveland Cavaliers are romancing you with videos, meetings and visions of what it would mean to play in your home state next to LeBron James.

You'll talk to Danny Ferry. You'll talk to Mike Brown. You might know both of these men already. You'll like them. Most people do. You'll like the idea of playing with James. You'll probably like owner Dan Gilbert, who is an excellent salesman, a passionate guy.

But you know the real deal. You averaged 23 points for the Milwaukee Bucks and set yourself up to become a free agent in order to have options.

Now, it's time to choose.

You're from Columbus; you played at Ohio State. If there is a real home court in the NBA, Gund Arena is it. Milwaukee can't match that, just as the Bucks have no one who compares with James.

If you're all about money, you'll go with the Bucks.

They will give you other reasons. They'll talk about the drafting of center Andrew Bogut. They'll talk about point guard T.J. Ford getting healthy. They might talk about Flip Saunders, whom they want to hire as coach. But in the end, they'll talk money.

According to NBA rules, the Bucks can offer you about $94 million over six years. The best the Cavaliers or any other team can offer is about $72 million over five years. They'll be quick to tell you that the difference is $22 million, and that's a lot of money.

Your agents are the Poston brothers, the same guys who represent the Browns' Kellen Winslow. They were the people who told the Cleveland media, "This ain't about being friends, it's about getting paid."

If it's only about getting paid, then you'll stay in Milwaukee and play for a team that might eventually creep into the playoffs, but won't become a real contender, barring a basketball miracle.

It's doubtful you'll get much encouragement from your agents to take less money. Rarely do agents suggest that, because agents receive about a 4 percent cut of the contract. If you take the Bucks' offer, it's worth nearly $900,000 more to your agents than what the Cavaliers can pay you.

Keep that in mind as you consider what they have to say. It's not just the Postons; it is in any agent's self-interest for their clients to grab the biggest offer.

I assume the Cavaliers are smart, and they'll probably have a presentation similar to one I received from Gary Hetrick, a CPA from Medina.

He looked at the Bucks' $94 million offer and the $72 million from the Cavaliers. He ran the numbers, worked the various tax considerations and other factors. He discovered that in terms of sheer dollars in your pocket - the first five years of the contracts are nearly the same: Milwaukee will pay you about $1.7 million more over those five years.

According to Hetrick, your take-home pay in the first five years from the Cavaliers will be $37.5 million compared with $39.2 million from Milwaukee.

Either way, I think you'll get by.

The difference is that Milwaukee can offer a sixth year, the Cavaliers can't. That sixth year can be worth close to $20 million, about $11 million in your wallet after taxes.

Maybe the Cavaliers can offer you a chance to become a free agent after three years. Or maybe they can come up with another creative idea. But they can't match Milwaukee's offer.

In Milwaukee, they'll tell you that you'll always be The Man, the center of the offense. With the Cavaliers, that's James. Just as you'll get more money in Milwaukee, you'll get more shots. But the Bucks were 30-52 last season, and they'll be lucky to improve to 42-40 - the Cavaliers' record last year without you.

Now you have to ask yourself, what really is the bottom line: the numbers on your contract or the victory total in the standings?

Re: Lebron is trying hard for redd

Thanks for the excellent read Karma. Hopefully Redd gets to read it. Net-Net, it should come down to what kind of role he wants to play - a leader on a sub-par team, or a sidekick on an up and coming team. I wouldn't say Redd stayed in MKE for the dollars - I will be upset, but will believe it was for other reasons. We'll see. Hopefully word is out by Friday.

Re: Lebron is trying hard for redd

great article karma.

the thing is i was saying the same thing about boozer before he left. that money isnt everything and so on. this case is different though because of ohio being his home town and he knows that if he plays for the cavs he will enjoy playing so much more.

he can be the main guy for the bucks but who will notice??? hes going to be on a crappy team with no spotlight but for the cavs, people who are not familar with him will be once they see him next to bron.

on a side note you have to think about the enviroment he will play in. the bucks will be lucky to average 15000 where the cavs will sell-out almost everygame, if he comes. the only thing that is stepping in the way is the cash. :thumbdown

Redd pays a visit to Cavs

LAS VEGAS -The Cavaliers wined and dined Michael Redd Wednesday, but now they might be forced to entertain other candidates.

Redd's agent, Kevin Poston, verified Redd's visit to the Associated Press. But several NBA executives and agents attending the Vegas Summer League, where the Cavaliers begin play today, believe it might be a moot point.

The word fast spreading around the league is that Redd will re-sign with the Milwaukee Bucks for six years and around $90 million, about $20 million more than the Cavaliers can offer under salary-cap rules.

Redd, who met with Bucks officials Tuesday in Milwaukee, will likely wait until the Bucks make a coaching hire to finalize his decision.

With Ray Allen and now perhaps Redd out of the picture, the Cavaliers are expected to turn their attention to the Washington Wizards' Larry Hughes and the Los Angeles Clippers' Bobby Simmons.

A person close to Hughes said Wednesday that he's unhappy with the initial talks with the Wizards and might now be turning his interest to the Cavaliers. He's not the shooter Allen and Redd are, but averaged 22 points, 6.3 rebounds, 4.7 assists and a league-high 2.9 steals last season. He's also only 26.

Mark Bartelstein, Simmons' agent, said he's spoken to the Cavaliers about his client, and he thinks there's a chance the two sides could get serious, especially if Redd returns to Milwaukee.

”I think Bobby would be a terrific fit in Cleveland, LeBron (James) needs a shooter next to him and he can fill that role,'' Bartelstein said. “We'll see what develops.''

Simmons averaged 16.4 points and shot 44 percent on 3-pointers in a breakout season with the Clippers last year, when he was the third scoring option behind Corey Maggette and Elton Brand.

Unlike Redd, Zydrunas Ilgauskas won't be making any free-agent visits. He's off next week on a three-week trip to the Far East with his wife. Before then, there's a chance he could reach a deal with the Cavaliers.

“I spoke with the Cavaliers and we've outlined some terms,'' Ilgauskas' agent, Herb Rudoy, said Wednesday. “I'm optimistic... there's a chance we could get something done in the next week or so.''

Rudoy said he and Cavaliers general manager Danny Ferry didn't make much progress during talks last week. Several other teams have expressed interest, especially the Atlanta Hawks, and have asked the two-time All-Star to visit. But Ilgauskas doesn't feel the need, perhaps a strong hint he wants to remain in Cleveland.

“Z's been in the NBA for nine years, there's no need for visits,'' Rudoy said. “Like all deals, it will come down to money and years.''

Game on

The Cavaliers begin their six-game summer league schedule with a game against the New Orleans Hornets at 6 p.m. today at UNLV. Of most interest is Luke Jackson, who will play for the first time since having back surgery in January. He has been working out regularly for the last month with Cavaliers assistant coach Wes Wilcox near his home in Oregon, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

“Luke is feeling great, he's excited to get back out there,'' said Bartelstein, who also represents Jackson. “He's still working to get his explosion and power back and that is going to take some time.''

Outside of Redd, I found the part about Z interesting. Zydrunas never had much leverage in his situation and it seems like he may settle with Cleveland relatively soon. Luke Jackson is up for action, claiming to feel good. He might not be 100 percent healthy but regardless of whether he’s 75 or 80 percent, he needs to play decent.

Re: Lebron is trying hard for redd

That was an awsome article. Pluto does it again.

I hope Michael reads that.

Re: Lebron is trying hard for redd

You know Redd could pocket more money if he'd just fire the Posten's, he could even reference their own statement about not in it to make friends. I know Redd isn't like this but it would be kind of fun about the only thing better then him just signing would be for him to say good bye to the Posten's before the signs.

Re: Lebron is trying hard for redd

This is all crazy stuff. Just one long roller coaster ride. Hard to read too much into anything right now. Someone needs to fast forward time cause my head is spinning.

Re: Lebron is trying hard for redd

If Redd signs with the Bucks, then he can enjoy spending every year in last place the next six years. With or without him, they will not be better than anyone else in the Central..

Re: Post info when Cavs make an announcement about Redd.

No. 1: Michael Redd is close to telling the Milwaukee Bucks that, yes, he's coming back to Brewtown to take a contract that goes one year -- and roughly $20 million -- better than the best deal that can be offered by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Redd visited the Cavaliers face-to-face on Wednesday, but not before spending nearly 10 hours Tuesday with the Bucks, who flew the shooting guard into Milwaukee for a round of bonus lobbying. The Cavs did everything they could when it was their turn, but you have to look hard to find a GM out there who thinks Redd will pass up $90-plus million over the next six seasons to take a five-year deal in Cleveland ... and with no guarantee that LeBron James will be there for all five years.

FREE-AGENT WATCH
No deal on Redd as Cavs make bid
Thursday, July 07, 2005

Plain Dealer Reporter
Unfortunately for Cavaliers fans, Michael Redd did not make a decision to sign a free-agent deal with the Cavs following his visit to Cleveland on Wednesday night.

Redd was in town as part of his two-day free agent recruiting visit that began with a visit and pitch by his former team, the Milwaukee Bucks, on Tuesday. Redd has became the hottest unrestricted free agent because Ray Allen re-signed with the Seattle SuperSonics on Tuesday for about $85 million over five years. The most the Cavs can offer Redd is $70 million over five years.

The Cavs, the third-worst 3-point shooting team last season, are in desperate need of an outside shooting threat and Redd has become a top priority. Redd was the leading scorer with the Bucks last season, averaging 23 points a game.

Redd is represented by agent Kevin Poston, who also represents Browns tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. Poston could not be reached for comment.

Redd's visit with the Cavs included a video presentation that included LeBron James and owner Dan Gilbert. Redd also spent time with General Manager Danny Ferry, coach Mike Brown and guard Eric Snow.

Besides the money, if Redd joins the Cavs, he will be closer to his hometown of Columbus and have the opportunity to get more open shots while playing alongside James and possibly with Zydrunas Ilgauskas, whose inside presence also would create more open shots for Redd.

That may not measure up if Redd signs with the Cavs because he would leave about $20 million on the table. Redd, however, could tell the Bucks that he will not re-sign with them, forcing them to deal him.

Re: Post info when Cavs make an announcement about Redd.

I'll say it again:

I say slash and burn make every freakin team with a top notch FA team max out their payrolls. If we can't get our guys hit the other teams so they'll have salary cap issues for the next few years.
