The Rise of Skywalker spoilers thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
After rewatching the entire MCU this past month, I'm not sure Taika changed Thor's character as much as he gave him improved supporting characters to play off of.

The bright color scheme and music was big as well in improving the Thor franchise.
The Thor movies were pretty poor in comparison to the rest of the MCU, mainly because the character as portrayed just isn't that engaging as a protagonist. I think this has more to do with Hemsworth than it does the comic book character.

Taika's entry is definitely the best of the three.

I don't think Hemsworth is the problem at all. He showed that in Ragnarok and by being arguably the best part of Endgame.

I'm willing to give the actor the benefit of the doubt. I just don't think this current iteration of Thor in the MCU is the best at carrying a movie by himself.

Pair him up with GotG, or insert him into the Avengers, and he's great. But put him as the solo protagonist in a film, like the first two Thor movies, and they tend to drag.

I think the problem with the first two Thor movies was more that they took themselves too seriously. Once they let Hemsworth start having a little fun he was awesome in the role. Thor is kind of a stupid character, but it works if you let him be dumb yet good natured, which Hemsworth clearly excels at.

That's kind of what I was saying. The first two movies dragged more because of the lame-ass supporting characters (outside of Loki) than because of Thor. He was still funny, but he had nobody to play off. The way Ragnarok was scored helped a lot, too.

When I rewatched the first two, as well as Avengers and AoU, I didn't really think Thor acted much differently. The biggest difference in Ragnarok and beyond is the color palette, the score, and the supporting characters.

To think they ever tried to push Lady Sif and the Warriors three...

Not really adding anything with this but man did I fucking hate this last trilogy. People seem to be in different camps where you like the Last Jedi or you Force Awakens but they all suck.

It's too bad as Daisy Ridley is a good lead too. Mind boggling that they didn't have at least a rough draft of the outline of the Trilogy before they made the 3 movies. I mean WTF.

Come on, man. We're talking about Thor. Try to stay on topic.

Its not like Disney can't do good Star Wars.

Rogue One is was fantastic. Mandalorian is great. Rebels was good, Clone Wars great, even though they only did the last couple seasons.

I am mean look at a character like Ashoka whom they really helped improve via Rebels and this last season of TCW. A fine, vital and amazing female protagonist. Or Jyn.

But Rey was a bland Mary Sue that was ultimately middling. That she was about the best thing about the Sequel Trilogy is a rather large condemnation of those films. Kathleen Kennedy seems to be the person to blame.

@col63onel @Jack Brickman I just realized--Taika being hired to helm the next major Star Wars film likely means D&D got canned, right?

If so, that's the best part of this announcement.
They already left due to their deal with Netflix. Or that's the story.

Disney still has "plans" to release 3 films in 2022, 2024 and 2026, but no idea if thats still true or what the plan is. Could be someone else taking over for W & B. Could be Rian Johnson's trilogy. Could be....who knows.

Jyn's speech in Rogue One was cringeworthy. Like, really, really bad.

Star Wars has always had a bit of this, I will say.

To be quite frank I was a huge SW fan but am pretty much over it. Didn’t even hate the new ones that much. Just made me indifferent to this franchise.

The prequels pretty well burned out the love I had for Star Wars, and the new movies haven't done anything to rekindle it. Still love a good Star Wars game, though.

Yeah. I'd kill for another KOTOR-esque Star Wars RPG, I'll admit. I know it isn't really an RPG, but I picked up Jedi Fallen Order recently, looks solid, haven't played yet though.
