Don't they use that goofy ass hologram thing?

"Oh, according to this his left hand was 2 inches in front of the defenders foot. Offsides."

Just not how it should be called, imo.

What "discipline" will the Iran team face when they go home?

Re: offsides call. Does anyone actually know what was called? They basically showed 1 replay that made it look like he was onside. I've read it was his hand that was off sides and I've read it must have been another park of his body because a hand can't be considered offsides but no one knew what it was . It was clear the fox stream was going out of their way not to talk about it as a missed call...

As someone that played soccer for 12 years and qualified for a ref later one (though never reffed) I can honestly say I have no idea what they are calling offsides. It was always "is the offending playing closer to the goal than the defender" and I always took that to mean their legs

Can we beat Netherlands?
Yes. We can beat anyone.

Will we? I wouldn't bet on it. With Weston and Gio already not 100%, if we have to add CP to that list, we're in trouble.

Our defense hasn't been stellar and our offense looks problematic. I'd favor the Dutch heavily.

If CP is OK and somehow we've just been saving Gio this entire time and he goes, then I'll feel differently

I found it. The US player was offside by.... A fraction of an inch, I guess?

Edit: because holy fucking shit. The offsides line is whatever the computer decides is each players closest point that can legally score a goal(so basically every part of a body but somewhere up the sleeve**). Also it's whenever the computer system decides the ball leaves the players foot based on chip technology inside of the ball.

**Which is also false because as long as your hands are against your body it's not a hand ball.

Basically it's voodoo

I think the tech is pretty good.

Based on the bodies, I'd call that offsides.

I played and reffed all of my early life. If you're under 16, not many options to make a buck better than reffing soccer games.

Takes:
  • Matt Turner has been exceptional. He has really improved when the ball is played to his feet, which was his glaring weakness a couple years ago after coming up as a baseball player and not a soccer player. He's turned into one of the better keepers on the planet, and I don't think the US advances if Steffen is between the posts instead of him.
  • Dest has been the best player on the pitch. Our entire offense focuses around the play from the wings, and he's been the best winger carrying the ball up from the defense.
  • CCV played great. I hope he gets the start Saturday over Zimmerman.
  • Ream has played great. He makes me not miss Brooks as much.
  • Zimmerman has been our best defender for the past couple years, but I'm glad Gregg pulled him for CCV. Still, he brings it when he's on the pitch. We might not be playing on Saturday if it wasn't for Zimmerman heading and clearing all those balls.
  • Antonee Robinson has like two years of terrific play, and then today. Today was the worst game I've seen him play for the USMNT. Hope it was a one-off.
  • Tyler Adams is fantastic and shows why he's our captain. His hustle as the defensive midfielder is the heart of this team.
  • Musah has played terrific. With Weston clearly hurting, he's picked up the slack. Today was his 20th birthday and he played terrific. I can't wait to see the rest of his career as he starts to grow and mature.
  • Weston was arguably our best player for stretches over the past couple years. He's clearly limited out there. I hope he finds something in his bag for the elimination rounds.
  • Tim Weah has been exceptional. He's a speed demon on the wings, and if it weren't for two transcendent wings being ahead of him, he would've started every game over the past few years for us. The US has never had a reserve as good as him.
  • CP is still the X factor on this team. He's special. Hope he's okay. Sounds like he's all good.
  • Our 9 has been terrible. Sargent is our best option but he's hurt. Haji Wright shouldn't see the pitch. I hope Ferreira starts if Josh can't go. Ferreira seemed to have great chemistry with our top 3 wingers.
Berhalter needs to go. Not subbing against England, repeatedly bringing on Shaq Moore, parking the bus and giving up possession of the ball so the opponent has more chances, I just can't stand the way we're executing. Thanks for the past few years, but let's find a better coach.

Brendan Aaronson is an unsung hero. Dude's legit good, and will out-hustle every other player on the pitch. In years gone by, he'd be one of the best players on the team. Now he's a victim of a stacked roster and can hardly see the pitch--but when he does, he still pops.

I'd love to see LDLT get some run when Musah gets tired.

This is what I'm talking about. Look at that image. Let's assume it's 100% accurate for the sake of this and forget about the fallibility of technology.

Would you rather give a call like that to the defense because his knee is 3 inches closer to the goal than the defenders hand, or instead would you rather say the offensive player timed his run about as well as he can and we reward attacking play?

That whole part of the thing needs to be removed.

You can look at replay. And the rule should be tilted to be in favor of the attackers. If, by the human eye, it isn't clear that the player is offsides, then he should be judged as being onside.

That's my take and I'll take it to the grave.

But based on that image, every line judge is raising the flag. You see the attacker's body in front of the defender, your flag goes up.

They got the call right on the field.
