But based on that image, every line judge is raising the flag. You see the attacker's body in front of the defender, your flag goes up.

They got the call right on the field.
Arguable. You are assuming that the chip technology is accurate, you are assuming picture technology is accurate (and it's clearly not 100% based on missed calls this WC), and on top of all of that it has to be done immediately. Within inches a call should just stand.

Well this is wild.

Wylanda seemed to backtrack earlier about the Gio reyna comments that he made

I'd love to see Gio get more playing time cause I think he is one of the more talented players that we have but I also think that he is playing a position that we have a lot of depth at, well probably get to see him against the Dutch with Pulisic and Sargent banged up though.

Well here's something I didn't know that I just learned.

In order to not be offsides there must be TWO defensive players between the attacker and the goal and the goalie counts.

Almost never comes into play but those rare times late in games when a goalie goes up to attack I guess it would.

I've never seen that called though, where only one defensive player is between the attacker and the goal but there's no goalie so a player would be offsides if he receives the ball in the opponents half.

Inches is all you need.

If you're looking down the line and the defender is closer to you than the attacker, if you see blue, you put up the flag--even if it's just a sliver.

Yup. That's the rule.

Player cannot gain an advantage by being behind the second to last defender.

It also comes into play when a keeper comes out to make a play on a ball. Lots of youth keepers like dribbling up to midfield like they're hot shit.

This is the rough part of group play.

There can be some serious luck in the order you play.

Tunisia gets to play the France B team because France is already first in the group.

They very well might go on to win this game and get a spot in the round of 16 depending on how the other game goes.

Mexico is playing much better today. Still haven’t scored as of HT. It was a nice pace to the first half.

In the other match, Messi’s PK was blocked by the Polish goalkeeper

Mexico eliminated on a really obscure tiebreaker.

People will make a big deal out of it, but it's a massive tourney that is spread across a country. They've got timeframes, you can't just add another game for the group stage.

EDIT: NM I missed that Saudi Arabia scored late.

Watching that all play out was pretty exciting. My understanding is that had Mexico scored and won 3-1 they would’ve gone through due to more goals scored than Poland. From that standpoint, the goal from SA didn’t matter at the end since Mexico needed the third goal anyway.

Correct.

They need an extra goal, and this would have been draw on 4, draw in diff, Mexico three Poland 2.

My ILs root actively for Mexico. Bad WC.

I am curious tomorrow to see how the Japan Spain and Germany Costa Rica matches shake out. I expect Spain and Germany to go through. Concaf has been pathetic by the way. Mexico is out. Canada and Costa Rica will likely join them. Dismal showing for sure. The other group doesn’t appeal to me ass much.

One underrated thing.

Kudos to Iran for a good, clean game.

They weren't fucking around trying to waste time all game. They weren't flopping too badly. There weren't egregious fouls.

It's refreshing to not play in CONCACAF bullshit. Hats off to Iran for a quality match.

Ehhh I'm not sure I would completely go along with that, sure they didn't really go about wasting time in the first half when it would have made sense but teams are rarely doing it that early and then obviously after the goal they had no reason too. I'll give you they weren't committing any egregious or dirty fouls but those last 20-5 minutes I lost track of the amount of times where they went down in the box whenever there was a US player in breathing distance of them it was pretty pathetic and the ref rightly saw right through the numerous attempts they made to draw a penalty.

We flopped our fair share as well.

When everyone does it, I can't really hold it against them.
