The "What are you playing now?" Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Never played CS. The really slow play type of FPS was never my thing. But thinking about giving Valorant a try.

Rounds May be fast. The speed of play is slow.

Your character is slow. You don't run. You don't jump. There is no real mobility to speak of. You die and you don't respawn. It's tactical because your character is both easy to kill, can't heal, and stays dead.

As compared to the arena FPS games Ive always preferred, like Quake. You move fast. You jump to move faster. You rocket jump. Hiding around corners is less the point and moving quickly from point a to b to gain control over the power items is more the point. You play Quake and you feel like you're playing a super hero with guns fighting another super hero with guns. Always preferred that "fast" feel.

Sure but those are games of the past. I suppose maybe Apex Legends. But I can’t think of many modern shooters with a shit ton of speed and mobility. Mainstream anyways.

Didn't say they weren't...I just don't play the new games lol. Even the new Quake wanted to impliment some of the new stuff, like rounds/no respawn in the competitive 1v1 scene. I prefer the old Quake 3/Arena Quake 2 style. 15 minute match and respawn.

EDIT: I still fire up Quake Arena from time to time lol

Mgs5 coming to a close again.

What should. I play next

I've been replaying Portal 2. It's one of my five favorite games of all time, and it's the rare puzzle game that is still fun to play every time even if you remember a lot of the solutions. The graphics hold up incredibly well for a game that's nine years old and the writing and voice acting are, as is typical with Valve, the best in the business. It feels like you're playing a Pixar movie.

Stephen Merchant as Wheatley is an all-time great video game performance. He even outshines JK Simmons as Cave Johnson.

Portal 2 has my vote for best game of all time.

Got IL-2 Sturmovik- Battle of Stalingrad and the Bodenplatte add on. World War 2 flight sim. Been playing flight sims since they first came out and this one is the best WW2 sim there is. Currently flying a P-51 in late December 1944.

So I played some more Portal 2 tonight and I'm almost to the end of the game. I found myself getting sad as I realized there wasn't much more to go. I just want the game to keep on going forever because the characters are so much fun. They do such a good job of turning GlaDos from a pure (if sarcastic) villain in the first game to a fully realized character in the second, and Wheatley is just the best.

I really hope a third Portal game is in the works now that the Epic Store threatened Valve enough for them to start making games again.

Replaying Half-Life 2 right now and man I forgot how quickly that game kicks into gear. I seemed to remember a long, drawn out prologue before the action starts. Nope. Like five minutes in and you're already on the run for your life, and while there is a fairly long story scene after that, once you get through there it's pretty much just action set-piece after action set-piece for a long while after.

I'm about to get to Ravenholm. :(
