Tristan Thompson

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He's still on the team? Somehow my brain feels the need to eliminate all memories of him

Marc Gasol shot a total of 66 3-point attempts (12 for 66) in his first 8 years and 268 in his 9th year. Jonas Valanciunas shot a total of 4 3-point attempts in his first 5 season and 74 in his 6th season.. Nikola Vucevik shot a total of 26 3-point attempts in his first 5 years, 75 in his 6th year, and over 200 attempts per season the last two years.

These were the first three centers I looked so they may not be the most extreme cases.

I view Tristan working on a 3-point shot to be a good thing for both expanding his arsenal and acknowledging the realities of the game. I will be shocked if he attempts more than 0.5 a game this season, all wide open.

Brook Lopez too. It is amazing what necessity will do. There was this idea that non-shooters cannot learn to shoot and it is just proven over and over that it is not true.

MKG is an example of a guy that cannot apparently get better, but there are just not that many of those guys anymore. They seem to be the exception rather than the rule.

His mid range shooting is not that bad. He shoots better than 50% on 2pt shots and shoots over 50% out to 10 feet. His form sucks and he switched hands and all that, but there are much worse shooters in the league.

I get your point -- working on a shot is admirable and can make you a more valuable player.

The problem is that TT is now 28 years, old, and still can't shoot even 2-point shots from 10 feet reliably. The odds of him ever becoming a remotely acceptable 3-point shooter are vanishingly small. And the other problem is that if he's out at the line shooting three pointers, he's not in position to get offensive rebounds, which is his best offensive skill.

That being said, there's absolutely nothing wrong with just screwing around shooting a few three pointers when you're practicing on your own time.

The thing is, almost all bigs who learned to shoot 3's were very good foul shooters first. Tristan's a career 61% foul shooter...it's very hard to find bigs who shot so poorly from the line and then developed a 3-point shot. The only one I'm aware of is Antoine Walker, a career 63% foul shooter who was a barely-respectable 3-point shooter for most of his career. Cliff Robinson was a slightly better foul shooter at 69%, and developed a 3-point shot at around 28 years old. Thad Young, a career 67% foul shooter, is another possible comparison point, though I'm not sure his 3-point shot is reliable enough to be considered a valuable skill.

Shoots the 10 footer at 50%. Beyond that is the problem. Let's be honest too, he is never going to be a volume 3pt shooter even if he somehow shot a decent percentage. No one is going to try to take it away because it is so rare.

Yay! It returns again. Another offseason of TT working on his shot.

Could this year be different? Maybe, but previous offseason work has yet to yield positive in season returns.

Browns football will be a nice distraction until we get some basketball. But please keep giving me these videos so some team will trade something value for him before the deadline.

I'm sure he'll being shooting 47% from three, just in time to make a difference in the Cavs/Warriors rivalry!

Some guys like TT, Dwight Howard, DeAndre Jordan should never shoot from 3...Dont.Do.It.

The reality of TT's future in the NBA might have dawn on him this summer. That can be a real motivator to change his game especially since it's a contract year for him. It's not like TT has a drama free off the court life. He also saw JR Smith just get passed over by the Lakers and most of the league despite his game actually fitting into the modern NBA.

Brook Lopez is a prime example of a guy who looked like he was going to be a league minimum guy going forward. Adding a solid 3 point shot to his game earned him a 4 year $52 million contract. The uncertainty of being in league minimum at 29 next summer when he should be in his prime and having to fight to be in the league going forward should motive him alot. It might be the difference between casually shooting 3 as part of his daily off season work out and going out with a private shooting coach and putting up 1000+ 3's a day for the whole summer.

Kid has a knack for getting into the news in the entertainment section instead of sports--

The Cavaliers player had his first public reunion with ex Khloe Kardashian since cheating on her with Jordyn Woods. Kardashian invited Thompson to their daughter True’s first birthday party. This after Kardashian says Thompson continues to send her texts and flowers despite her rejections.
The party wasn’t filmed for the episode. But in a recounting, Kardashian revealed that Thompson tried to kiss her. He also got into a confrontation with rap star Kanye West, husband of Kim Kardashian.
The two were not wearing microphones during the lively back and forth. However, West said Thompson was upset over the use of West’s song “Runaway” in a teaser for the episode.
“Runaway” talks about West’s past cheating ways (this was before meeting Kim) and references “scumbags” and “a—holes.”
“He felt like we were using my music to reinforce his narrative,” West said.
Needless to say, the confrontation didn’t win Thompson any points with his ex.
