Week 1 (9/11): Browns @ Eagles [1:00 PM EST, CBS]

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
What was the point of the Browns talking about how they didn't think Carson Wentz was any good during the week leading up to the game?

It still baffles me why they did that.... on multiple occasions.

Browns defense or not, he was pretty impressive.

He right out of the gate looked as good as anything the Browns have had since the return. Made throws. Took care of the ball. Made pre-snap reads and adjustments. 1st game ever and he outplays RG3 easily.

I don't know if that is a plus for Wentz or merely an indictment of how pitiful Griffin and the Browns are.

Guys, Wentz was fools gold today. No NFL tape against a talentless defense. He will be grounded next week.

That’s where past regimes really failed. We were always bad, but we’d win 3-6 games per year and a top QB was *just* out of reach. No more. Let’s fully commit to being terrible and actually get the top guy.

I can't believe anyone thinks that the problem with the Browns is that they've won too many games.

We've missed out on Andrew Luck, Cam Newton, Blake Bortles (hey he looks legit), Jameis Winston. This year alone Goff.

So yes, winning too many games has cost us. And before someone says well yeah, the bad organization would still draft bad players.

Well, if we're going to attract good GMs and coaches to come to this place, you need something to attract them to get them here. We have nothing. We have a culture of losing and nothing to build around with a quick triggered owner.

So yeah, no one is beating down the door to come to this place. None of those teams were desirable either, they at least got lucky and were finally then to attract talent though.

It's pretty true. Wouldn't you rather have Andrew Luck or Cam Newton right now?

I understand the sentiment. The problem I have with the argument is that there were good quarterbacks available when we picked that we did not select. We passed on Russell Wilson, we passed on Derek Carr, and we passed on Bridgewater, just to name a few.

I agree but with how horrible we have drafted through the years it would have been nice to just have a slow pitch softball no brainer pick like Luck

We have done our part to miss as well but our meaningless wins over the colts and Curtis Painter have done us no favors

I'd be good with Derek Carr, Aaron Rodgers or Ben Roethlisberger, any one of whom this team could have drafted. Here's an idea: how about we try to put competitive teams on the field and actually get good players with the picks we get? Other NFL teams do that and it works for them. I'd take that over complaining that a team that have averaged 11 losses a year since 1999 hasn't lost enough.

I guarantee you the list of good players we've passed on- at just about every position- is a hell of a lot longer.

This team has sucked for 17 years.

That's approaching two decades. Think about that.

I'm really to the point of wanting to see them moved.

The Browns missed on guys, hardly news. But we needed the obvious names so the Browns were forced not to screw it up.

We can't even hit on centers and tackles, it'd take a miracle for them to hit on a QB in the later rounds.

I actually think Hue has a clue what he's doing FWIW. That's a mile upgrade compared to the past, even if in the end he just ends up being marginally good at what he does.

Remember though, the problem is they haven't been bad enough.

Hue Jackson seems to know what he's doing.

The problem is the roster he has is full of people that don't seem to live up to their billed talent from past regimes.

I'm not mad at guys like RG3, TP or others. I could see they were -trying-. But the problem comes down to the likes of past mistakes in the form of Shelton and Erving who just flat out suck.
