Welcome John Johnson III, S

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I know there's no real way of knowing/quantifying this, but can anyone think of a time when the Browns (or ANY Cleveland team) got a top free agent in their prime, let alone for "significantly less than other offers"?

Also, I think I'd rather have JJ3 than Watt.

Excellent signing.

Feels good to be a destination.

If I could only have one guy in FA this off-season, this was the guy I would pick. Can't believe we actually got him
Taking price into account, I agree. He's a really good player at a below-market price at a position of need.

If price and no other factors mattered, shit, give me Barrett or Golladay :)

I think he's gonna benefit our team more than either of them would, and likely anyone who was actually available up to this point, including JJ Watt. He's very very good, and shit storm that was the safety position for us just went from the biggest weakness to a strength instantly. Golladay and Barrett are both great players, but not nearly as big of an upgrade as Johnson will be. I've watched him play quite a bit. If you haven't, you're gonna be very pleasantly surprised. These things don't usually happen to the Browns.

I mean, I don't disagree with you. I love Johnson. I had him behind Maye and Simmons, but they both got tagged. I have him ahead of Anthony Harris, and think Johnson is going to thrive here. Whether we play three safeties deep, play Johnson up, or play Harrison up, it's going to be fun to give Woods these assets. And hey, if one goes down, we're not starting Andrew fucking Sendejo. That's nice to know.

But Johnson isn't as good of a safety as Golladay is a pass catcher, or Barrett is a pass rusher. Again, all fantasy-land, neither is an option and they don't fill positions of need the way Johnson did, but if nothing mattered, those were my two favorite players on the free agent market.

Hmmmm...I'd have to really think about that, but I think Johnson is a better safety than Golladay is a WR. Totally agreed on Barrett.

But the Browns getting the best secondary player available in the NFL this off season is exciting. If they manage to pair it with a great corner like Shaq Griffin, then the Browns probably managed to address their biggest needs with the best players available to them.
