Remember when we drafted Tyus Jones & traded him for Cedi? Those were the days...

I forgot about that. We were sure Cedi was better for awhile. Guys develop tho

They got #31 and #36 for #24. I think Windy has said in the past that they just wanted that #31 pick and they basically never intended to keep whoever they drafted at #36. We traded Christmas to Indy for a 2019 Lakers 2nd round pick during training camp. We trade that pick to dump Richard Jefferson and Kay Felder. It ultimately becomes Eric Paschall.

Guys left at #36 in 2015- Richaun Holmes, Josh Richardson, Pat Connaughton, and Norman Powell.

Do you draft Eason & roll with a tall line-up of:
PG: Garland
SG: Eason
SF: Markkanen
PF: Mobley
C: Allen

Is there a chance it works? Eason has playmaking skills.

The SG on this team needs to be able to make his open shots off kickouts and take the tough defensive assignments in the backcourt.

That is it. Of course, I'm making it sound simpler than it is. But the point is, there's no role for a SG who stops the ball and "needs" 18 shots per game. The roster is already set in that regard.

Some playmaking skill is a definite bonus, as always, but we should get an actual backup PG to take care of things when Garland sits.

Would you trade #14 and #39 to San Antonio for #20 and #25??

I’d have to think real hard about that and think I might as I don’t think there’s much difference who would could get at #20 vs #14, but there’s likely to be a pretty difference between #25 vs #39. That would put us in position to grab a wing and a backup PG.

No. There is a pretty big difference between #14 and #20. It is fairly likely that one of the top wings falls to us at 14, there is no chance of that at 20.

Also, #25 is a guaranteed contract, #39 is not -- and also we are very close to a 15 player limit, not clear we have room for two more rookies.

The Cavs currently have 11 players under contract, which includes the 2 non-guaranteed deals, for Stevens & Wade. Pending free agents include Sexton, Goodwin, & Moses Brown. The draft comes before free agency and we certainly have room for 2 draft picks, if we so desire.

I think Sexton or LeVert will be back, but not both. The 2 non-guaranteed contracts are always good trade chips. What happens with Goodwin and Brown is largely dependent on what happens in the draft.

I’m curious what wing you think is going to fall to us at #14? Eason’s stock is reportedly falling and some think he could even slip to the second round. Jalen Williams seems like a reach that high. Dieng’s stock is all over the place and some believe he has a promise from OKC at #12. Most of the projected players that are around our pick are SG’s, which is not as big of a need for this team as SF obviously. If anyone falls to #14, I think it’s gonna be Johnny Davis.

No way. First there's benefit to having early 2nd rounders vs late 1st rounders.

But the difference in 14 to 20 could be huge.

This is a take that continues to baffle me. "Obviously"?

As it is, we don't have a single SG either on the roster or possibly returning who fits in the starting lineup. Not one.

IMO, that is by far the most pressing need.

Compared to that, the SF rotation is in brilliant shape.

We have 3 SG’s currently on the roster- Sexton, LeVert, & Okoro. All have their warts, but, all either are or should be NBA rotational players. Okoro needs development, but he is still younger than some of the guys available in this draft. How & where would a rookie fit into that mix??

Guaranteed at least one of: Murray/Griffin/Davis/Mathurin/Sochan/Dieng/Daniels/Eason/Branham

(because Holmgren/Smith/Banchero/Sharpe/Ivey will be gone and we just need to hope Duren/Williams go early).

It's just a numbers game - I don't know which ones will end up rising and falling - but picks 7-16 are going to be chalk full of the type of players we need.

I think the guys most like to be there are Eason, one of the bigs (Duren or Williams), and Davis or Branham. Eason’s stock is reportedly slipping due to poor workouts and I’d like to know more about that issue. So, if I had to choose I’d go:

1) Davis or Branham
2) Duren or Williams
3) Eason

If we draft another SG, we’d need to have room for and a plan for developing him. Maybe the that means Okoro goes, which means selling a stock at its low point. Wouldn’t be easy giving up on a 21 year old, who was a former top 5 pick. I could see Sexton or LeVert going as well.

I wouldn’t dismiss drafting a big either, as it could open up trade options down the road.
