WWE/NXT/AEW/NJPW Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Still not convinced Roman should drop the belts.

What a fun dynamite! Yuta/OC was incredible,
Blew me away. I’m hoping we get OC challenging Yuta for the Pure title next. I’m really interested in the dynamic between the two of them.
Mox vs Uno felt like prime ECW, and that MJF/Danielson promo was *chefs kiss*
That new reality show is pretty big for AEW, too. They’re getting an extra hour of programming each week.

People get obsessed with the show week to week ratings fluctuations, but the fact is, AEW is a huge hit for Turner.

Great to have two healthy wrestling alternatives giving us hours upon hours of easily accessible programming every week.

I'm content with Roman holding on to the Universal for the foreseeable future. But they need to split the titles. Really painted themselves into a corner with the unified titles.

I think you ride the hot hand. You can crown Cody three months from now and he'll still be fine. Sami is the guy right now. Give him the title. If you don't want Cody to win it from another face, have Owens murder Sami after winning the title in the usual fashion and then take it from him a few months later. Then Cody can take it from him.

Sami doesn't need to hold the title for a year. He just needs to hold it, same as in NXT, where he held it for like three months. Sami winning the title at 'Mania just flat out means more than Cody winning it right now.

1 million percent this.

Sami Zayn is/was/never will be again as over as a babyface as he is right now. If there was ever a time to temporarily change the plans, it would have been now. Once that moment passes (IMO it’s already passed), you’ve lost the ability to ever get it back with Sami specifically.

Cody Rhodes is a big star. He carries himself like a star. He’s presented like a star. It’s a lot easier to heat someone like Cody up as a big deal than it is to have the crowd organically choose who they want to see in the top spot.

And as Jack said, if they just don’t see Sami as a main event star, that’s totally fine. He doesn’t even need a 3 month run with the belt. The show is scripted, he could lose the belt the next week if ultimately that’s what they wanted.

It’s really just a matter striking while the iron is hot and they chose not to do that.

To the point on rating fluctuations, just saw on Reddit that Dynamite popped a pretty nice number last night and #1 on cable. I think NBA on Wednesdays drags Dynamite ratings just like MNF always drags Raw’s rating a bit. Plus, Nielsen is so damn outdated. Clearly turner is happy or they wouldn’t be getting another hour of TV with that reality show.

So damn happy to have a viable alternative out there, for fans and the talent.

I saw in the announcement of the reality show that Turner boasted that AEW brings in 4 million viewers each week to TBS.

Everyone including Meltzer mocked how bad that number was.

Probably includes streams and DVR, which just furthers the point that Nielsen ratings are an outdated metric.

Despite those that continuously root for the downfall of these companies, wrestling is thriving right now. Great to see.

Worse and far more disingenuous than that…

Yeah I mean that’s odd corporate number inflation by the PR team haha. I work at a major company and see it every day.

What I care more about is that the network is happy with the product. Hopefully will mean a more favorable tv deal for AEW. I’ve been waiting forever for a damn streaming deal.

TBS as a network gets 4M viewers on Wednesday nights.

They’re crediting that to AEW, but AEW is really only bringing in about 1/4th of that 4M.

I’m not even knocking AEW as 1M is a great number in the modern TV landscape, but that’s still pretty hilarious PR spin by WBD.

If anything, they are happy to have live programming that guarantees viewers versus showing another movie they have shown already this month.

Shout out to the Papi Niño. I've done a complete 180 on Dom. I thought he was the biggest nepo baby tagging with Rey and he had considerable go-away heat (with me at least) but Haitch has repackaged him to perfection. Leaning into Eddie, the whole prison storyline, and now he's delivering hilariously skeezy promos with confidence in the ring. He is carrying himself like a true pro and seems more and more confident each week.

Pretty impressive turnaround. I can't really think of many similar examples in wrestling as of late.

Reminds me a lot - character wise at least - of his father Eddie's early WCW heel run.
