Your 2019 Cleveland Indians

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Anybody with more knowledge about the situation know how or if this will have any effect on the ownership group going forward? Obviously they would be losing an investor but I'm sure they had knowledge of this coming so hopefully they put feelers out for other interested parties in the mean time.

Early indications are he would be replaced.

Could this motivate the Dolans to sell? Possibly?

I don’t know the answer here, but this team certainly needs that outside investment.

They do have an interested replacement investor. And he’s one of the richest guys around. And he thinks the Indians are super cool. His name is George. George Glass.

I’ll go wash up for dinner.

Too bad we don’t have enough money on this board to buy the minority share of the Indians! That would be so cool to actually be in meetings and get to put the braintrust together in a sense lol

And have to fly budget airlines? No thank you.

If we had the money to be shareholders, we would be able to afford better than budget airlines lol

On a serious note, this could effect the probability of resigning Lindor. Let’s say we get a minority owner with Dan Gilbert’s willingness to spend some money, maybe they could help keep Lindor in Cleveland, but if we get a share holder like the Browns owner was, one that doesn’t care much about the team then keeping a good budget could be tougher than it has been.

Also I wonder how this will effect our current FO, since if the Royals owner was a minority here, he may want to take/get certain FOs here over there. Not sure how involved he is in the day to day things, but since he had been putting some money into the Indians, it wouldn’t surprise me if he made some acquaintances in the Indians organization.

If the Royals are selling for $1 billion. I’m sure it will be discussed inside the Dolans office. You gotta at least have a conversation about how much you think you could get, right?

I mentioned yesterday about with Jose going down and Velazquez being hurt about bringing up someone, would picking up a guy like Alcides Escobar or Eduardo Nunez for the remainder of the season be something out of the question? The last few years we may have gotten someone like that at the waiver wire trade deadline just to help the roster out/fill in for injury.

Also would anyone be against maybe doing a 2 year minor league deal thing with a guy like Gohara, essentially getting him signed for next season on a minor league deal and an invite to spring training?

I don't see the point in wasting resources (albeit minimal) or even a 40 man spot on one of these guys.

Rather ride with Chang and Freeman. Escobar has been awful for years now and Nunez has for the last 2 years as well. Not even sure what Nunez has been doing for the last 6 weeks or so since his DFA.

The Marlins sold for 1.2 and nobody cares about them in Florida. Cry poverty for 20 years and proceed to make a 677 million dollar profit. Where do I sign up?

If they were to ever sell, I think (and hope) they would sell to an ownership group that wanted to keep the team in Cleveland.

Honestly to only double your money in 20 years for the level investor those guys are is not very good.

It was also spitting out dividends most years

And you have the benefit of owning a baseball team. Yeah, over that span investing in many other things would’ve had a higher price appreciation.... but owning shares of Apple has a lot less entertainment value than owning a baseball team

Not arguing that point of it, but the fact they cried poor means they didn't get much in dividend, but I would rather own a sports team over anything in the world, just saying you don't do it for financial gain. Sometimes you make good money, but in general its a very expensive toy.
