Z is waiting

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Isn't it strange, though. SGs who are the 4th best player on their team (Joe Johnson) get max deals while a top 5 in the league center has so few options. And PGs who can shoot as well as the max deal SGs are looking for MLE deals.

Th teams who have cap space are rebuilding, and want younger pieces. Those teams are also ones Ilgauskas would have little interest in playing with. It is a bad situation for Ilgauskas to get a contract he wants. To get the deal he may want it would have to involve a sign and trade in which the Cavaliers would have little interest in.

Yeah but for 1. The Suns are stacked as they have the MVP of the League 2. The Best up and coming powerforward. 3 A defensive stopper who can score rebound and do it all in Marion. And Q-Rich their 2nd biggest FA acquisition who hit over 200 3's but is no longer there. It's just that JJ is 24 just starting to come into his own an the fact that teams are rebuilding and don't want to commit to a 30 year old center with a long line of feet and ankle problems is all. JJ is the type of guy who you could begin to build around and is at an age teams are infatuated with. I am surprised though that Z hasn't gotten more then just us and Atlanta he was an All-Star and did have one of his best if not best seasons as a Cavalier and in an era where big men are really rare. Oh well i'm not complaining he has no leverage as far as going else where since the Hawks are pursuing JJ and Curry and they are frontloading JJ's contract to make the 1st year 20 million and the 2nd year 20 million to make it hard for them to pay Amare which is pure genius on the Hawks part taking advantage of the situation, however that leaves them only 4 more million to spend if they do that, as they started with 4 less then us at 24. sorry if I got off topic but one thing leads to another its a domino effect this offseason lol.

I was saying this months ago, and people (truth) were attacking me. Why offer him much more than the MLE? It's bad business...If teams can only offer him the MLE, why would pay him a contract double that?

Do you think he would be doing us any favors? Everyone says let's just show Z some love. Didn't his $70 million dollar contract just end? He is the second best center in the NBA people say, and outside of his rookie year - he has never been to the playoffs!!! We OVERVALUE him way too much. Z at $7-8 mil - that's ok because he is a good player but anything more and it's a bad move.

Wake up Z, you have no leverage!!!!

Exactly he won't sign anywhere for more then the MLE, so why do we have to pay him 8-12 million? We don't have to we don't owe him anything, he owes us for the years he didn't play and still got 14 per season...

I'm bending pipe right now, you should see the leverage I have on that!

BOO-YAH! I'm Stewart Scott!

I couldn't agree with you more. Z got mad, crazy, dope love when his foot was all busted up and he was collecting pay checks. To his credit, he worked his Euro butt off and came back, but he is a siv on defense. It's like buckets on my head. If we give in and give him $10 mil plus, I'll do something very bad. I may sneak into Danny Ferry's office and top shelf his toilet (even though I love the Ferry hire and think he's done a great job so far).

OK we offer Ilgauskas bugger all dollars for the player he is. Z gets insulted as he should and talks to the Hawks. The Hawks offer him a fair contract in which they sign. Z said part of him signing is that he is immediately traded to a team in need of him who cant afford him. The Hawks agree as this way they can get a good player in return that they thought they couldn't get as noone wants to sign there. Cleveland are left looking stupid offering contracts to restricted free agent big men who offer half of what Ilgauskas can but yet will cost more dollars.

Yeah good idea, lets low ball Z. This tactic worked really well for Washington.

I don't think you can sign and trade a player who wasn't on your team the prior year. Our risk is we are low enough he takes the MLE from another team or decides to take money over potential and goes to Atlanta. One thing in our favor is I expect he would like to play with jasikevicius. Another thing in our favor is he's good friends with Ferry. And I think he'd enjoy mentoring the new lithuanian center we picked up.

Karma you can't sign and trade a player you just signed...

I'm actually glad Z's waiting. It gives us the opportunity to sign more FAs (PG and either PF or SF). We sign Z first and it cuts down on our options salary cap wise. If we use our cap space now and sign a PG and PF/SF then we can turn around and sign Z even if we go over the cap. And actually I wouldn't mind doing a sign and trade for Curry. He's young and can only get better. Z's best days (years) are way behind him.

Dont quote me on this but I thought there was a small window where you could immediately trade the player after signing him. I may be getting mixed up with trading for a player and then trading him elswhere.

Anyways, lets lowball him and see him walk. Great result. Lets the sign Jerome James at center so then we get a lottery pick due to our awful season and then draft a star. What a plan!!!

We cannot go over the cap to resign Ilgauskas. Those rights have been renounced so that we have this space. If we get Curry, we will soon be calling Drew Gooden a defensive stopper in comparison.

If Z signs for $10+ million to go to the Hawks - then what does that say about Z???

the situation with Hughes was a little different there Karma, and I know you are smart enough to know that.

The situation is different but ther are similarities. We can pay Ilgauskas his fair value or we can lowball him. Washington had the same scenario in a way. This is a stupid risk to take. If we are smart and can resign Z and nab Saruanas, we only require cosmetic work to our team rather then surgery.
