Z is waiting

If we are smart and can resign Z and nab Saruanas.

I believe that's exactly what we're working on. And I believe the issue is # of years, not dollars. Do we want sign Z to 5 or 6 years, only to see him retire in 3 or 4 years? Tie the last year or two to performance so we're not stuck if he retires. We're just lucky there aren't many teams with cap space this year.

Believe me, I'm all for signing those two. I just don't want Z over $8 mil. And from what I read in the ABJ today, the Cavaliers don't want to either...

What does year 5 and 6 matter? We will be capped out from here on in. Its all about Z's starting salary. I dont see what trying to lowball Z will prove.

I dont' see Z fitting with the Hawks but the idea of them signing him and then trading him does scare me a little. I know they can't sign and trade him right away but I'm pretty sure the Hawks could find a buyer, Isiah and the Knicks, if they wanted to move him at the deadline. I'm not sure how long they'd have to wait now but I belive it was originally 3 months. After the time period though the Hawks could trade Z. I imagine Isiah would come calling and would probably offering Tim Thomas's ending contract and a young player. This actually isn't a bad option for the Hawks if they miss out on free agents. While Z wouldnt' fit into their long term plans he'd could net them another young player to build with later on in the season.

Z for 8
Jasikevicius for 4 (I have to learn how to spell that)
Haslem for 6.5
trade drew for a pick
bring back tractor for 2

Well thats 20.5 million that we dont have we have 17 tops...unless Gilbert goes over the cap...and umm sarunas will get around 3 mill.

years 5 and 6 matter because there will be an upper limit to that we can spend and there is a luxury tax. If Z is still playing effectively, by all means let him keep playing. If he's gone, we need to have cash to spend via the MLE to bring in a center. If the luxury tax means it costs $10 million to bring in a $5 million guy, we'll have a problem.

It's not 20.5 when you include the part about trading drew for a future pick. It should work out about right.

Z - 8
Sarunas - 3
Haslem/Sar/Whoever - 6 (whatever they have left which should be more than anyone with the MLE can offer)

roster at 11 - three free agent rooks to fill out the roster

Miami can offer Haslem 5.5 milion - it'll probably take at least an extra million to get him to leave his home town and shaq.

Do you ever sit back and think how absurd it is the money that gets thrown around these days - lets pay him an extra $million to get him. I wish people bid that way for my programming skills.

OK we offer Ilgauskas bugger all dollars for the player he is. Z gets insulted as he should and talks to the Hawks. The Hawks offer him a fair contract in which they sign. Z said part of him signing is that he is immediately traded to a team in need of him who cant afford him. The Hawks agree as this way they can get a good player in return that they thought they couldn't get as noone wants to sign there. Cleveland are left looking stupid offering contracts to restricted free agent big men who offer half of what Ilgauskas can but yet will cost more dollars.

Yeah good idea, lets low ball Z. This tactic worked really well for Washington.

Karma...I've read a lot of your posts and I know you are smarter than this. Ever hear of BYC (base year compensation?)? It prevents the exact situation you are talking about above.

REP ME!

That's what I'm talking about ...he doesn't have too many options. Everyone keeps saying that he only has these few options, but the reality is ...ANY team can try and sign him, they'd just have to agree to a trade with the Cavs in order to get it done with their cap situation. Problem is, not too many teams appear interested. I think we can get him cheap ...I don't think he really has great value in the eyes of many teams....and from watching him and his up and down spells throughout the course of a season, I really can understand why. I'd do cartwheels if we could get Jamal Magloire and lose Z ...

We are willing to give Haslem 6 million, and you believe 8 million is fair for Ilgauskas. There is a massive gap between the two.

I don't see why he can't take a smaller per year salary to leave us some flexibility we stuck with him through his injuries we made sure he was paid didn't deal him or anything. If he took 5 mill we could land another guy like SAR and be a title contender instead him and his piece of shit agent Herb Rudoy will milk us for everything we have left and either make us pay over the cap or do without. Z just got 70 mill and didn't even play for 2 of the seasons...you'd think he would understand he is aging and at 30 he will begin to trail off and get even slower and more injury prone.
