The Brian Hoyer thread...

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Mallett was - and always will be - a piece of scUM trash in my eyes. Hope he gets obliterated Sunday.

Brady has gone out of his way many times to praise Hoyer and what he's done.

QB's under Brady's tutelage do pretty good. Cassel went 11-5 the year Brady was sidelined, went onto Kansas City and looked respectable for a short-period of time. Even made a pro-bowl.

Hoyer is looking pretty damn good.

Mallett we've yet to see.

He might have a career as a QB's coach if he wants it, when he decides to hang it up.

Just to clear up the "Hoyer threw a bad pass" rhetoric.

at some point the league is going to have to start punishing the players that make these hits with suspensions for as long as the player they hit is out.

Ross is from YSU, he's still cool in my book.

Still a shitty pass by Hoyer though, hit him in stride and he's probably playing this weekend.

Glad Hawkins is back though.

Ross getting fined does nothing to clear up the "Hoyer threw a bad pass" rhetoric, fwiw.

In my opinion, the errant throw put Cameron in a position to get leveled. That the hit was flagged and fined does not change that. You're welcome to disagree - which you clearly do - but that doesn't make either one of us "right" or "wrong". It's a chicken/egg argument that we can go back and forth on forever.

^ I don't completely agree, but it's just a matter of opinion. A shitty throw isn't caught. Cameron made a catch that is made often in the NFL. Difference being that the defender took the opportunity to hit the guy in a way that results in a fine. I think there's an opportunity to hit a guy illegally on every play; guys don't take them often. Ross did.

Headhunting from the safety position has been outlawed since 1993. That wasn't a "heads up and wrap up" mistake... that hit was off by an entire generation of football rules. Now I have over twenty two thousand reasons that fault lies with the safety on that play.

Then Tom Brady must be the biggest bastard in the world. How dare he lay his receivers out.

And Peyton Manning?

That son of a BITCH! :ranting2:

Sigh.

First, Ross was fined 2 weeks ago - not sure why it's being brought up now after the discussion had moved on.

Second, the original argument I made was that Hoyer shouldn't get kudos for playing without Cameron because his pass helped lead to his being out. Showing other QBs making throws where their receiver gets hurt doesn't have anything to do with that. For the fifteenth time, all QBs make bad throws from time to time. Hoyer just happened to have a stretch of 3 games where he made quite a few of them. He looked great against Cincinasty and if he can even approach that level of play the rest of the year I will be ecstatic.

For people who hammer every negative post about Hoyer with "We're winning, focus on the positives", you sure seized an opportunity to bring back the negative to this thread.

In my 5-minute Booms dose this morning, I caught this little back and forth.

Caller: "You guys do realize Hoyer is near the top of the league in yards per attempt, completions of 40 yards or more, and completions of 20 yards or more..."

Caller was immediately hung up on and the two clowns stumbled over one another to attack the caller. "Those stats are MISLEADING. He's a dump and run quarterback! Nothing but screens and slants."

Kirk Cousins is 2nd in the NFL in Yards Per Attempt amongst qualified passers.

Still a shitty pass, and the examples you used weren't even remotely close to the throw in question.

The Brady throw couldn't have been placed any better, Ward just went too low and took out a knee. The Manning throw was similarly well placed, the hit just looks much worse because Welker is already flailing for the ball before contact. They didn't lay their receivers out at all, those passes hit them both in their hands.

Go back and watch Hoyer's misthrow, Cameron had to dive to even attempt to catch the ball. I wouldn't blame Hoyer for Ross aiming high and drilling Cameron in the helmet (which drew the penalty and fine), but a better throw has Cameron securing the ball instead of lunging directly at the defender.

Yet people did... in this thread... I remember because it was the first post I had called flat-out "terrible" in a few years... that's why it came back up. :mf boff:
