Will the Cavs get caught in the Ferry undertow?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Ok so here's a question.

I thought he said "he's still got some African in him," then said "I mean that in a good way."

How do you say someone is a two faced scheister in a good way?

Probably because Ferry knew he was saying something offensively racist and tried to patch over it with "in a good way" in the hopes that it would be enough of a bandage. It wasn't.

Quad,

You're a two faced scheister, and I mean that in a good way.

Probably like that I would assume.

If a guy in Egypt is Middle Eastern and runs a shady store is he black? If a white guy in South Africa runs a shady store is he black? Are all Africans Black or is Luol Deng a Black African making the comment a cultural issue?

Africa is big diverse continent.

If a European scouting report said a US player was too American because he blows all of his money and that player is black is that racist? No it's culturalist.

Are African-Americans considered Black in the most widely understood context?

I think you're too busy playing semantics, and should instead focus on the actual situation. Also, you conflated nations, regions, and races in your above quote so it's very hard to follow. There are many "Black" Egyptians.

I get what you are saying; that Ferry is demeaning a culture and not a race - but we really don't know that.

Personally, I think Ferry was just being stupid and not practicing good common sense, I doubt he's a "racist" or meant anything racist in his comments. But we can't really know for sure, and making a case about culture vs. race with respect to Ferry's intent is simply impossible to do on any factual level. He could've been referring to either culture OR race, we don't know.

I think we should all be a little offended. I know I am thinking back to my ancestors from 50, 000 years ago.

Not on a conference call with the people who own the company I work for. If I did, I would expect to lose my job. You have to be smarter than that.

So let me ask you a question. If you had twitter and were representing your company's logo on that twitter and you said some women deserve to get hit, would you expect to lose your job?

Should Paul George lose his job?

Doubtful that Ferry survives as Hawks GM.

Either he resigns after today's release of the audio conference call, the people who are clearly trying to get rid of him (by releasing the tape) manage to do so in another way, or the new owner cleans house.

we can now trade with the Hawks again and also not worry about Ferry snagging the guy we want in the draft.

For people that don't want to listen, here is one part that I'm guessing came from his good buddy Chris Grant:

“He has a little African in him. Not in a bad way, but he’s like a guy who would have a nice store out front but sell you counterfeit stuff out the back….. For example, he can come out and be an unnamed source for a story and two days later come out and say, ‘That absolutely was not me. I can’t believe someone said that.’ But talking to reporters, you know they can [believe it].”

This is exactly what happened last year after he got traded to us and realized what a dumpster fire we were. By no means does this excuse what Ferry said. It sounds like he should have said that Deng is two-faced instead of making a racist stereotype.

If Paul George were a normal person and said what he did on Twitter while representing his company, he'd stand at least a chance of losing his job. However, he's not a normal person. He's a millionaire athlete with a guaranteed contract who represents a substantial investment on the part of his employer. For that reason, he won't lose his job. The Pacers simply strong-armed him into apologizing and then Bird called him out publicly.

And to be honest, I don't have a lot of compassion for anyone who is dumb enough to say things like George said on Twitter. He has a right to express his opinion, of course, but expressing your opinion can have consequences if your opinion is stupid and offensive.

they have found the scouting report everybody's talking about and it looks like it came from someone in the Cavs organization (presumably Chris Grant)

"from a physical when we got him Chicago had run him into the ground. We tried to correct & manage it when we got him. People say that he's worn down but i disagree & think there is more left in his body"

"He's a good guy on the cover but he's an African..."

its funny reading that, because thats the vibe i kind of got from luol. aalways thought he was a little shady, and put on a front. and yes it does look like that african comment came from a cavs source. oh well though, who cares.. i just want everyone to move on from this.
