When supposedly the Steelers and Ravens want a player then you know you got a good player. Let's go get Bowers now.
This might be a bit of a stretch, but does this remind anyone of the way the Ravens used to have Siragusa and Adams? Those two weighed more than 700 pounds combined and would free up the Ravens linebackers. Seems like the Browns are going for something similar. Rubin is about 330. Taylor is 350 before breakfast. If things go according to plan the two of them should be able to shutdown the middle and let our backers make plays.
Of course I don't, but the picks after us went like so:
22-OT
23-OG
24-DE
25-OG
26-WR
27-CB
Looks to me like he would have been there.. most of those all adressed the offensive side of the ball. BAD DEAL
I was a bit thrown off when I first heard about the giving up that #3 just to trade up a few spots to take Taylor because it seemed like we traded our #6 pick for a #21 and a 4th rounder as the 3rd rounder we gave up isn't that much better than the 2nd we got ... but then they finally mentioned the fact we got 2 picks in next years draft as well - so, yeah, we still come out ahead.
Why draft Phil Taylor??? Well it's already been mentioned that the Browns finished 27th in the vs the run. Here's another 12 reasons why they drafted Taylor.
Next year two games each vs Ced Benson, Rashard Mendenhall, and Ray Rice
Chris Johnson
Frank Gore
Darren McFadden
Arian Foster
Steven Jackson
Maurice Jones-Drew
I could also add Ronnie Brown to this all-star list of running backs they play next year.
Baltimore won the Super Bowl when they had Siragusa and Adams in the middle. Those two sumo wrestlers freed up a lot for Ray Lewis and Peter Boulware. Rubin and Taylor could make whoever we add to this line and the middle linebacker's job a whole lot easier.
Last year the top 5 teams against the run last year were:
1. Pittsburgh
2. Chicago
3. Green Bay
4. Baltimore
5. Atlanta
Who are those 4 teams??? That's only ALL four of the NFC and AFC championship teams, both of the Super Bowl teams, and a team that finished 13-3 with the best record in the NFC. Need I say more??
Not wishing anyone to get hurt, but those picks next year are a Matt Ryan injury away from being a lot better than we think.
Yeah after I slept on it, I'm not as mad as I was before. We got about 700 pounds in the middle now.
I want Aaron Williams with our second pick, pretty much rounds out the secondary; however, if we get Bowers (and he stays healthy), our weak d-line automatically turns into a strength.
Phil would have been there at 27. Who was going to pick him otherwise? With all the holes Heckert's talked about, I don't know why he gave up a pick to reach for a player.
