The Jonas V thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'm a Raptors fan and Jonas has been the definition of mediocrity this year. Offensively he is more raw than TT is. He's decent at getting clean-up basket points, but has little ability to create a shot in the halfcourt that isn't contested. He's poor at establishing position in the post, can't set a screen and isn't fast enough to roll to the basket anyways, which is why his FTA is so low. Most of the time he either takes a hook shot with a defender in his face or passes it. His best skill is a midrange jumpshot that he doesn't use enough, because he doesn't recognize quick enough that he is open. The optimistic Raptor fans thought JV at 7 would just shoot over anyone at any time, but it doesn't work like that... NBA Cs can contest even 7 foot 6 wingspan guys.

Defensively he blows. Taken to lunch on a regular basis by post threats and weak positioning awareness on help D. He plays with activity, but not intelligently.

For the 'best player' comment... imo Amir, Psycho, Fields, Lowry, Gay, Derozan and in limited minutes Acy, have outplayed him, while Ross has been level

JV went off at the end of last season, but March/April meaningless games are the Andray Blatche pulling the chair zone. At the same time last year, Gerald Henderson was averaging 20ppg and working towards that big contract. When teams want to defend JV, they do it well.

I see JV the same as the Derozan and Ed Davis picks... more than a complete Vesely type of disaster, but just not a dynamic talent. Not a surprise that the dumbfuck GM who took Bargs over Aldridge, Derozan over Lawson, Davis over Bledsoe and Ross over Drummond, wouldn't be the guy to come out of the draft laughing because he got the steal and star...

Wish this guy would get more time. Wtf is wrong with Dwayne Casey?

Casey is obsessed with small ball. Takes out JV to put in ice cold Novak, who does not get the ball when he is wide open, but when someone is on him and he is forced to create shot for him self . DD and Gay had 54 shots and only 3 assists.

I was just looking at the box score and couldn't believe those 2 squeezed off 54 shots between themselves. For the love of God they need to trade one or both of them as that kind of ball hogging on a team is cancerous.

19/9 though is probably Jonas's best game of the season so far.

17 for 62 against Houston was their masterpiece. Kobe's 17 for 47 + 15 more misses!

The biggest misperception I saw from your paragraph (and maybe you posted this while you were emotional after a loss, which I understand 100%) was "He play with activity, but not intelligently."

I've watched every Raptor game this year, and trust me when I say, he does play intelligently, but he is often compromised by the perimeter defenders, he comes over to help once they are beat and he gives up alot of plays when his man gets the dump offs just by being left alone at the rim. What he lacks, is more experience.

For IQ, I place him above young centers like McGee, Drummond, Monroe, D. Jordan even... but below Marc Gasol, Noah, Andy, Hibbert. Maybe on par with Kendrick Perkins of right now, or on par with Birdman (who plays the game emotionally recklessly but actually very intelligently, IQ wise...like Matt Barnes or Raja Bell in his prime). Andy plays the game physically recklessly but IQ smart as well.

Jonas plays physically smart and tough on D, but like you said, he doesnt assert himself ENOUGH because he is the young guy with broken english amongst dominant presences like Lowery, Derozan and Gay who all want the ball and shots.

Move those three guys and convince Jonas that he is being a good team player by being assertive and aggressive, and you have a guy who is possible as skilled AND smart on both sides of the court as Roy Hibbert, possibly in the next 2-3 years, which would put him there when Hibbert first came to the league and still needed 2 more years to break through.

Masaij knows this. If he doesnt and if he thinks like you, have him call Chris Grant tomorrow.

This guy and TT are racing each other to the bottom right now

You're the Raptor fan right?

I watched this game in PIP while watching the Cavs game at same time... did you see that up and under spin move back to his left and finger roll with his left after catching the ball and planting with his right from just inside the freethrow line? THink it was late 1st or early 2nd. I blew the game up and had to rewind it after I saw it. Made Vlade Divac look like Yinka Dare with that up and under and soft roll. Cant believe Casey doesnt get him more touches.

If Tristan was able to do that smoothly ONE TIME, he'd be a all star kind of talent here.

Jonas didnt get another touch (aside from him scoring on that offensive putback/tip) for a long time after that crazy move.

Surely, you watched the game.

It was an aesthetically pleasing move. But when a defender is on, Jonas' hook shot will be contested virtually every time.

Would you trade JV to us for TT?

Yea, I'm probably pulling the trigger on that Jonas for Bennett deal.

is it possible to trade a head coach ?
