I'm a Raptors fan and Jonas has been the definition of mediocrity this year. Offensively he is more raw than TT is. He's decent at getting clean-up basket points, but has little ability to create a shot in the halfcourt that isn't contested. He's poor at establishing position in the post, can't set a screen and isn't fast enough to roll to the basket anyways, which is why his FTA is so low. Most of the time he either takes a hook shot with a defender in his face or passes it. His best skill is a midrange jumpshot that he doesn't use enough, because he doesn't recognize quick enough that he is open. The optimistic Raptor fans thought JV at 7 would just shoot over anyone at any time, but it doesn't work like that... NBA Cs can contest even 7 foot 6 wingspan guys.
Defensively he blows. Taken to lunch on a regular basis by post threats and weak positioning awareness on help D. He plays with activity, but not intelligently.
For the 'best player' comment... imo Amir, Psycho, Fields, Lowry, Gay, Derozan and in limited minutes Acy, have outplayed him, while Ross has been level
JV went off at the end of last season, but March/April meaningless games are the Andray Blatche pulling the chair zone. At the same time last year, Gerald Henderson was averaging 20ppg and working towards that big contract. When teams want to defend JV, they do it well.
I see JV the same as the Derozan and Ed Davis picks... more than a complete Vesely type of disaster, but just not a dynamic talent. Not a surprise that the dumbfuck GM who took Bargs over Aldridge, Derozan over Lawson, Davis over Bledsoe and Ross over Drummond, wouldn't be the guy to come out of the draft laughing because he got the steal and star...
