The Quarterback prospect thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He wasn't the only one who was impressed with Russell.

I think that says less about Mayock's trustworthiness and more about how little stock you should put into a pro day..

Yep. Pro days are like 40 yd dash times. They are a piece of information, important but not critical. Plenty of guys had great pro days/combines and failed or struggled in pros. Same as 40 times. Ask the Raiders how drafting on 40 times has worked out for them.

If the Browns staff sees a foundation with TB that they feel they can develop and work with... take him. Same as any other QB prospect. They are looking for some base skills (IQ, ball release, arm strength, mobility, etc.) and just as important they are looking to see if the prospect can learn, make adjustments, assimulate info rapidly, work hard, etc.

All that... I sure hope the front office makes the right pick. It's been a long, long time since Bernie or Sipe. Unbelievable long.

Such a mind fuck.

Do they just not care for pro days?
Do they know a team ahead of us is going to take him?
Do they have him graded out as a late first-round or later pick?
Did they forget about his pro day?
Do they just plain not want him?
Have they already decided that if he's there at 4, they're going to pick him?

Can't tell a damn thing.

So confusing... Which is a good thing, I suppose. It is either a GREAT smokescreen tactic, or it is them absolutely telling everyone that they're off the QBs..

My last remaining hope with these QBs is that either they already know their guy or they will have them all in for private workouts...

The info out there currently is that the Browns like Bortles and Carr. Bridgewater has almost no buzz with the Browns and Manziel has cooled considerably. We'll see if they do anything special with Manziel during his pro-day work out next week.

I would not be surprised to see them slow play Bridgewater and take him at 4 since he'd seemly be a great fit for a Shanahan offense. But I can also see them being true to what is out there now; Bortles at 4 (if he is there) if not, BPA and then Carr with 26 or even 35 potentially.

Bottom line, no one knows what the hell they are going to do. Not a bad thing either.

Could also mean Bridgewater is gone before 4 and they are not wasting time on him.

could all be a smoke screen and they're still hoping for Manziel. nobody knows...

Savage has the best arm in the draft. Has flashed plus accuracy as well, but struggles with consistency and had little help as well.

I really think the NFL is where he can gain more consistency with better coaching and talent around him.

Not gonna lie, that was a really impressive game from him. Love his arm strength and he seems to have pretty good pocket presence and underrated escapability aside from that sack fumble he took where he could have stepped up in the pocket.

I agree with both of you on Savage. I am ashamed to admit that i paid no attention to him. I know it is only one game but, i came away pretty impressed with his arm strength/accuracy. He did have a lot of, off the back foot throws, once the pocket collapsed. The key is, the receivers were open when he threw the ball and it was not forced into a tight window. He is a big boy and looks to have below average athleticism when running, which in turn, leaves him suspect to awkward slides and dangerous hits. I will definitely check out more tape on him.

My only concern is his name. It is not a star QB name, at all. It sounds more like a radio host or sitcom TV name.

How is Savage not an All-Pro name?!

Strongly disagree there.

Didn't really come out that impressed of anything I watched. A lot of underneath and dump passes. He missed on EVERY SINGLE deep ball, one was passing interference, but many of them were underthrown. I think I counted 2 passes completed of +20 yds down the field. For as much as he threw, only racked up 243 yards on an average 22/35 attempts with most of his yards coming from the one big play via YAC. His accuracy was nothing better than I saw out of Weeden. And he's pretty slow.

As a senior, he also had a lower QBR and rating than Braxton Miller

43 sacks????? Get rid of the ball Weeden!

Again, a lot of that speaks to his horrendous offensive line and lack of talent on...well the whole team.

Get him into an NFL setting and work on timing and rhythm and he could eventually pan out. I'd take that over a guy like Carr or JG who don't have the same physical gifts and are going to be looked at as starters because of their draft position. By the way, Braxton Miller also had a higher QBR than Carr.

The tools are there with Savage, tough to dispute that.
