2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

I know he wants to play on but I think they offered him an assistant job to go alongside lue.

The fact he met with only Lue makes me this this is more as a possible assistant or just two friends meeting up. When Marion met with the Cavs it was Blatt and Griffin that he met with. I would think if this was someone we were looking to sign as a player then he would have met with them as well.

You must of skipped through the article.

CB met with Lue and then had dinner with the Cavs contingent later that day.

I must have skipped over that part. Thanks. Think we would look at him as just a veteran leader that likely doesn't play much?

Edit- The Bullshit Whisperer said in his chat today that he thinks Billups would likely be looking a front office role here.

Is CB supposed to be our Derrick Fisher, like what OKC did?

Hopefully we dont play him for 30 minutes a game like OKC seemed to do in the playoffs.

Well, we do have a better coach :)

I would LOVE Billups on this team for his mentoring alone. Dude is such a PRO. Was one of my favorite players back in the Detroit days...when they weren't playing the Cavs, of course.

How many vet minimum contracts are we allowed to add? As many as we need to fill the roster?

The Cavs on 2k15 is gonna be sick lol

A little bummed they let Marion go without signing him. From everything we've heard it's about another ring for him, as he's already made Mucho cash.

Of course, he can still sign later, but it worries me a bit.

The Cavs are in no position to say "Sign today or the offer is off the table". The fact is we can't pay him the most money. Odds are he'll want to play here anyway, so let him take his time.

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

In a perfect world we would end up getting:
Love
Dieng
Marion
Allen

Then we probably would play with a 9-man-rotation.
Starting five:
Kyrie
Waiters
James
Love
AV

Bench unit:
Allen
Miller
Marion
TT/Dieng

I love Delly and Jones. But I don't see how they would be a part of the rotation.

Imo, when Kyrie goes to the bench, Dion switches to the point guard position and Allen comes in playing as shooting guard.

True, but can't blame me for being a little greedy. I'd love to see us get some good defensive guys to shut the critics up that there's no one here other than LeBron willing to play a lick of defense.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" lang="en"><p>Cavs did meet with Chauncey Billups. Just a visit, might turn into front office role down line, maybe player contract. Nothing imminent.</p>&mdash; Brian Windhorst (@WindhorstESPN) <a href="https://twitter.com/WindhorstESPN/statuses/497110776310542337">August 6, 2014</a></blockquote> <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Having Lue on the staff, Posey and possibly Chauncey in the organization, and hopefully Z back in some small capacity when he's ready would be fantastic in terms of the respect those guys have of the current players in the league, to go along with the obvious cache of playing with LeBron.
