Game Thread | Game #19 | Cavs @ Bucks | Nov. 25, 2022

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
It is SO like this clown to chalk everything up to “intensity and heart and toughness”

Mortherfucker, no, your counter to losing Allen for the night was to go 3 on 5 offensively and 4 5 defensively. You could hop the entire lineup up on crystal Fucking meth and all the intensity in the world is not going to be able to change the Bucks, an ELITE practiced defensive juggernaut being able to juice up the pressure against a Lopez and Okoro lineup on one end, and then run it down your throat on the other.

They would run Giannis at the high screen and roll, Robin would drop because he can’t do shit else, Giannis would swing the ball immediately back to holiday, who would fly around Brook Lopez who would lay Okoro out, and then have a 2 on one, Jrue or whoever the weak side handling option thst flew up over the Brook screen was and Giannis in the short roll versus a flat footed Robin Lopez in the paint. Guess what? Robin steps up? Fucking dunk. Robin doesn’t? Wide open mid ranger. Anyone helps on the guard, Weakside help ..I.E Mobley…ball goes to Giannis who gets the shoulder past and ends it at the rim or on a short kick to Portis or strong side shifts and it’s a quick bloop pass to the wing, who will tap or touch pass it to the corner. Goodnight San Francisco.

It just amazes me how a ball handler can wave a red sheet around and coax Okoro like a bull into getting absolutely fucking laid out by a step up screen from the FT line to the top of the key. Either he doesn’t watch film, can’t comprehend it, or something…because whether it’s Klay Thompson or Brook Lopez stepping up to the spot, he’s literally barreling into them time after time.
I mean the only healthy body you can make an argument for is on a two-way deal. But with all of Allen, Love, Rubio, LeVert, Stevens, and, ahem Windler out, the cupboards are pretty bare.

I do think the need a legitimate backup center option for when Allen goes down, but we've got six guys out, Lopez/Neto are third string, and Isaiah should be in the G League.

Yeah, the Cavs proved again that they can't compete against Milwaukee without Jarrett Allen. They were a +4 in the 12 minutes he played.

They did a great job in the first half with 63 points against the league's #1 scoring defense. However, all that did was get the Bucks mad. They came out and punked the Cavs 22-2 to start the 3rd just like last week when the Cavs scored 60 in the first half and the Bucks started the 3rd on a 20-6 run.

Maybe next game the Cavs will understand the first half means nothing and they have to play the 3rd quarter like it will decide the game, because in both games against Milwaukee the 3rd quarter was everything.

Not having Allen to start the second half obviously hurt, but they still outscored the Bucks by 7 points in the 12 minutes in the first half when he was on the bench.

Right not the Cavs are not in the Bucks' league because, as JBB said, the Cavs don't know how to ramp up to playoff intensity and the Bucks do. When the Bucks put their foot to the floor the Cavs fold.

Another problem was the Cavs failing to finish the quarter like they've been doing lately. They were up 29-15 with 1:50 to go in the first quarter and gave up a 10-1 run. It reminded me of how they were up 10 points on the Clippers with under two minutes left and managed to lose.

Giannis is a man among boys. He made it clear early in the 3rd quarter that there was no way he was going to let the Bucks lose. He played the first 6:36 of the third quarter and in that time the Bucks outscored the Cavs 20-2.

The problem was that the Cavs were so traumatized that in the last 5:24 with Giannis on the bench they were beaten 15-8.

Bobby Portis could be in the conversation for 6th man of the year. Tonight he had a line of 14/8/4 in 25 minutes. He's almost unstoppable on that mid-range fallaway even with a big right on top of him.

The Cavs had just 2 turnovers and 63 points in the first half. The second half they had 39 points. The Bucks decided enough was enough and it was time to get after it on defense. They focused on Garland and Mitchell. We had nobody else who could get a bucket and went 3-for-18 in the third quarter.

The Bucks shot 46.9% on 3's (15-for-32). This is a team that ranks 22nd in 3-point percentage. They also had 27 assists to 12 for the Cavs and 9 blocked shots to 2 for the Cavs.

It will be interesting to see what we can do against these guys in our house if Allen is able to play, but they will have Middleton by then. We play them again in 26 days and then a month later.

In the last 25 years or so at PF, the only guys that were where so many seem to think Mobley should be in their 2nd seasons were AD and Duncan, both of which made All-NBA and All-Defensive teams. Few players in league history can make those types on claims as 2nd year players. It’s not even remotely realistic.
Dream, Ewing, Shaq, Duncan, LeBron, and AD are probably the 6 most highly regarded prospects of the past 40 years. AD and Duncan are part of that elite group of guys who had a high ceiling, a low floor, and were NBA ready.

We didn’t even get Mobley with the first pick. Patience.

I'm gonna tell you guys something and it goes against the grain of the entire spirit of the board and these threads in particular.

You make WAY too much out of each and every regular season matchup.

You look at the season in a holistic approach. But you can lose to the Bucks twice and it mean absolutely nothing at all in the postseason. Just like Boston can lose to the Cavs twice and it mean nothing. Just like the Bucks can lose to the Hawks twice and it mean nothing.

I know that having that mentality can sorta suck the joy and agony out of the regular season games individually, but it's just reality.

People keep getting upset at Mobley being soft but man it's Jarrett Allen that keeps going down with every little nick and knack type of injury you can think of...ankle here, hip there......
Have you ever been bridged in a b ball game?? If you hit the floor wrong you’ll be paying the price for days! As for the ankle injuries I don’t believe get taped anymore or the trainers are doing a piss poor job of it!

Agreed.

On November 2, 2006, the Cavs beat the Spurs 88-81.

On January 1, 2007 the Cavs beat the Spurs 82-78.

Those were the only 2 regular season matchups.

Do you remember what happened in the finals?

We did beat Boston twice already this season though, and both games on their home court

They were missing Robert Williams though. Yes, we’ll get Rubio back, but Williams is a legitimate impact player and he changes the way they play on both sides of the ball. He makes a major difference in how they can defend us and if healthy is an All-Defensive / DPOY caliber guy.

To my eye, we simply got a good dose of playoff intensity to open the 3rd quarter and we aren't up to that yet. Bucks just have another gear and, at least for now, we don't.
I would even disagree there, somewhat. We’ve seen the Cavs use that other gear. Not tonight though.

I'm pretty sure one of those years when LBJ came back the Raptors clapped our cheeks all regular season and then they got swept.

We could have beaten the Bucks both games and I wouldn't have thought for a second we could beat them in 7, this year, if they were healthy.

Just like I don't think the Hawks are beating them either.

True, but Brown/Tatum/Wiliams aren't the x-factor that Giannis is. I feel you can game-plan against the former 3 but there is no way to game-plan what Giannis brings. You can force him to shoot 3s, sure, but he's too freakishly athletic to keep him out of the paint. Put 3 bodies there and he can still snake his way to the basket. It's going to end in free throws for Giannis or an open 3 to someone on Milwaukee.

Boston is 15-4 with the best record in the NBA and WIlliams hasn't played yet.

Anyone feeling comfortable that we could beat them, this year, just because we won two regular season games is absolutely drinking the kool-aid.

It don't work like that.

The Raptors were 2-1 against the 2015-16 Cavs

The Hawks were 3-1 against the 2016-17 Cavs, who were an all time great team (better than 2016)

Oh, I completely agree, but they were still good wins

And DG needs scale back his back and forth dribbling as well! Make one or two moves….if nothing materializes then give the ball up!
