15th Roster Spot?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The people advocating for Ray are completely ignoring the defensive side of the ball. It's just as important to get stops in the playoffs as it is to have a guy hitting a corner 3.

JR and Shumpert can do both, Ray can only do one of those things.

One of the reasons the defense has been improved the last 4 games, is because JR can actually defend. He's not a world beater, but he understands rotations and has active hands. (Does anyone actually miss Dion?)

Exactly. We already have Miller, Jones, and Harris and barely play them. That is without Iman. I understand what Ray can bring, but I just don't see how it is something we need.

we need another rim protecting big im convinced now

shump, kyrie, delly, bron can all handle the ball

mozgov is our only true big unless u count 900yr old haywood

So Dalembert has just been sitting there on waivers, unclaimed for the last 11 days? Nobody else needs a semi-serviceable big?

I would prefer a big as well but just can't say NO to Jesus Shuttlesworth. When the game is close, he is THE player to have on the floor alongside LeBron. Even last season with Miami, he looked good and considering how underwhelming Miller has been, I feel Allen can provide some sick spacing and important points off the bench. Though I feel, Miller would pick it up come playoffs time. He used to do that with Miami as well.

Yes, JR has been great but playoffs are a completely different scenario. The game would slow down considerably and we would need two or three players for the spacing. That is where Allen would help. Kyrie, Love, Delly and TT haven't played a single play-off game yet. The likes of Shumpert and Mozgov haven't played many games either. It doesn't hurt to have experienced winners in the roster who have been there and done it. Instead of going for a point guard, I would rather go for Allen, someone who can provide us more sharpshooting from beyond the arc and the fact that he has a great understanding with LeBron helps in crucial situations.

Done! Let's trade Miller for Allen! Let's work the trade right now, with the lawn chair that Allen is sitting in! It will still be warm, when Miller's ass hits it!

He has cleared waivers. He is now an UFA.

Get Dalembert as vice Mozgov(I have no interest in seeing this team without a rim protector again if god forbid anything happens or Moz gets into foul trouble).

Trade Haywood and his contract for a decent PG. We can not afford taking back a 10m+ a year type of player next summer anyway. Preferably somebody young who could be used as an asset in the future.

Jason Lloyd's latest on related topics:

13. The Cavs are still trying to upgrade their backup point guard spot, but that probably won’t happen until closer to the trade deadline. If they can’t find one in trade, they may have to wait until one they like is bought out or until late March when the Chinese League season ends.

14. There have been whispers throughout the season the Cavs may trade Brendan Haywood’s unique contract before this summer, when it reaches its maximum value. Those whispers are growing louder. In fact, if the Cavs are to upgrade their backup point guard position through trade, they will inevitably have to include Haywood just to make the money match. And from all indications, they’ll have no problem moving Haywood’s contract if the right point guard becomes available. But they won’t know that until closer to the Feb. 19 trade deadline.

15. The Cavs have been privately telling people for months that when they originally acquired Haywood’s contract, worth $10.5 million non-guaranteed next season, they didn’t have any max players on the roster. Now they have three.

...

17. Other teams are now highly aware of Haywood’s contract. Since the Cavs are fully committed to win-now mode, it wouldn’t surprise me to see them deal Haywood within the next four weeks for immediate help this season.

18. If they don’t trade for a point guard, keep an eye on Will Bynum and Bobby Brown. Both are playing in China and won’t be available until after the Chinese playoffs in March, but the Cavs are interested in both. Bynum would be a much cleaner add than Brown, who still has two years left on his deal with DongGuan, but they’ll have competition.

It seems the Cavaliers front office wants to see everyone get on the court before filling that last spot. If they are only looking at 10 day contracts, Quincy Miller is a long athletic wing defender tearing up the D league right now.

As long as guys like Shumpert are healing and Mozgov doesnt know the plays yet, we won't know what the team really needs long term.

In a quick follow up: Quincy Miller is two games into returning to the NBA with Sacramento. 7ppg, 4 rpg with a steal and a block per game. Still shooting a terrible percentage. If he ever irons out that jump shot he would be a good rotational SF.

I think the Cavaliers want to remain flexible in case of injury. No rush.

After watching tonight, I think Shump and Delly can manage backup PG...get me Dalembert

I'm leaning this way too on Dalembert...I think AJ Price would be a decent fallback PG option, if we can get him on a 10-day to refamiliarize with our personnel. I thought Price had signed back with Indy, but he's not coming up at all in the player database, so I'm assuming he's free.

If that means deactivating Mike Miller or James Jones for some stretches, so be it- they're team players.

I hope we don't waste Haywood's contract on a backup PG. Another center is a far more important and needed role. A backup PG won't make any difference. Just look at the difference that a rim protector has made for us and the Haywood contract could net us another Mozgov caliber center. It's also a lot easier to find a PG than a center.

I wonder if Arinze Onuaku (f/c) from Canton Charge will get another look this season. If Dalembert isn't signed, I'd give Onaku a look.
