2012 Draft

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No one is saying he is not deserving of top consideration, just that the Cavs have options that make more sense. If he was by far the 2nd best player in the draft and he slipped to 4, then you consider it, but I have yet to read that opinion from an informed scout. He is not clearly better then prospects 2-6 and the other players fit glaring holes that need to be addressed.
Reading mock drafts 30 days before the draft is fun- but the NBA draft is not covered nearly as well as the NFL draft. NBA mock drafts do not become reasonably accurate until a week before the draft. Mock drafts immediately following the lottery are shots in the dark at best and should be taken with a grain of salt. Hell only a few of them are based off actual information, most are taking existing mock drafts and tweeking it to the author's opinion. So to say T-Rob isn't a top 4 guy because he isn't listed in many mock drafts right now is foolish. He has the talent to be in the consideration for a top 4 pick. Will he end up there? No one really knows until we get much closer to the draft.

You only get a chance to draft in top 4 for a few years before you find yourself drafting 7-15 in the rebuilding process (unless you blow the picks) Drafting two players who can not share the court full time back to back and do not address holes at the 2,3, 5 when there are prospects just as talented or more talented by all scouts accounts is very odd.. If this was a weak draft and Robinson was head and shoulders about all players left with the 4th pick that would be one thing. There is not a single scout that shares that opinion. So yes, it would be a very perplexing pick

In all honesty, I'm warming up to the idea of drafting Robinson, especially if MKG and Beal are gone. The Cavs simply need talented players at this point. You wouldn't always see Thompson and Robinson on the floor at the same time. Likely one would start and one would come off the bench, which would most likely be determined by whoever the Cavs get as their future Center. Besides, there's 96 minutes in every game between C and PF. In all reality, both guys would probably be at their highest effectiveness if their minutes were kept in the 27-30 range. We'd see them play together at times in a smaller lineup. Just imagine having Thompson, Robinson, AV, and then adding a C from the 2013 draft like Zeller, Noel, etc. Good lord. We could have the best front court in the league along with the best PG. That's a big time recipe for success.

Obviously we'd still need help on the perimeter, but we do have #24 this year which could still become a higher pick via trade, we have at the very least two 1sts next year, we have over $13 mill in expiring contracts (Walton $6.1 mill, Boobie $4.79 mill, Casspi $2.277 mill), and currently have just under $20 mill committed to the cap for 2013-14 once we pick up Kyrie and Tristan's options. We're in phenomenal shape all around.

The Cavs are still far away from being a contender. No one player in this draft, not even Davis, was going to put us over the top this year. I don't think the fact that we took Thompson last year should preclude us from taking Robinson if he's the best player on the board. They are two different types of PF's and bring different abilities to the table. You never know, one of them could become a key component to bringing an established perimeter player down the road (S&T for Harden? lol). At this point, the only position we can rule out in the 1st is PG, simply because we can already see Kyrie is something special. I think most of us believe Thompson will be good, but who knows what can happen. Having Robinson and Thompson pushing each other to get better isn't really a bad thing. Plus drafting someone like Robinson makes bringing in a guy like Asik a bit more of a possibility. Who knows. I really want MKG or Beal, but if both are gone I'm not going to be upset if we take Robinson over Drummond or Barnes.

Considering what Monty Williams was saying about the draft, it seems like NOH might be willing to make a move. What would you guys say to AV/34 for Okafor/10?

Do they have any "all star" games against each other like football does for with the Senior Bowl?

Nope. The closest thing is those stupid high school all-star games they show on ESPN every once in awhile. The closest you will get is the feedback get on how these guys guard each other in the workouts.

Jonathan Givonoy of DX was on Toronto radio yesterday to discuss the draft. You can listen to the podcast here. Here's some interesting Cavaliers-related highlights:

-regarding his mock pick of Bradley Beal to Cleveland at #4: said Beal would be a nice compliment to Kyrie Irving in backcourt. Said both are professional, no nonsense guys, who have high character; good shooter; good defender; views Beal as a safe pick.
-regarding possibility of Andre Drummond to the Cavaliers at #4: said he heard the Cavaliers contacted Drummond's people yesterday morning, so he is not convinced as of yet that they won't pick Drummond. Views Beal as a safe pick wheras Drummond would be the swing for the fences pick; mentioned that the Cavaliers committed to picking Kyrie Irving late in the process a year ago and said it will probably be similar this year.
-regarding Harrison Barnes: said Chris Grant was a huge fan of Barnes last year and was disappointed when he chose to return to school; said the SF is a big need for the Cavaliers and they could go with Barnes at #4.

I seriously do not get this Thomas Robinson love.

No way you take a safe power forward over the starting center potential of Andre Drummond.

Robinson is not a great shooter, not a great post player, not really known as a defender. Thomas Robinson can be easily shut down in the pros when size and athleticism will no longer make him stand out.

So I'll ask again, what is desirable about this guy that would warrant the Cavaliers to pass on a talented wing for
a redundant PF?

The better move would be to move up somehow and grab Moultrie who has just as much potential and also has a money midrange jumper that would compliment Tristan's skill set very well.

I think he is going to be a better version of Paul Milsap. I would rather take a wing player, but I wouldn't bitch about getting T-Rob.

I do that in a heartbeat. I then draft (hopefully) Beal and Moutrie @ SG and C, and keep a nice warm SF spot open for that douche in Miami to come home to.

If we dont get a SF in the lottery, we can maybe get Moe Harkless or LeBryan Nash.. They both have solid games and could contribute some what immediately...

As for FA, i could see Eric Gordon Staying because of Mr. Unibrow.

Why not draft Drummond, one of the SF's ive listed above, and some role players with potential and the want and will to be the best, and pick up a FA called OJ Mayo. I think, IMO, he has all star potential and hes helped the Grizzlies to the playoffs, though they are a team and not 3-4 players.

If we take Barnes, then a center, and a back up SF and SG/PG with the 2nd round picks.. we could then get Mayo. the FA this year is good. more players that can make an impact then the 2010 FA. i think we should pick some up. i mean who wouldnt wanna play with a great PG?

Gordon doesn't really have a say in the matter of staying in N.O. or not. His best bet to get out is a sign and trade or pull a Ben Gordon and sign for one season to become unrestricted in 13. No way does N.O. just let him walk. Than again their GM is Dell Demps.

Paul Millsap at 4? Yeah, you probably should bitch about that, especially when we already have a similar PF on the roster already who has more potential than T-Rob as a rim protecting, athletic power forward. PF is one of the easiest positions to fill in the NBA.

Could someone post this article from Chad Ford. Supposedly discusses the possible trade between Cavs and Bobcats and he stated that Beal and Gilchrist could choose not to work out for the bobcats.

I really hope the Cavaliers don't trade up to #2. We have alot of needs and with where we're sitting at least two from among MKG, Beal, Barnes, & Drummond will fall to our pick. I think Charlotte is likely to pick Robinson or Barnes (like MJ, a UNC guy) anyways. Thus, I don't see the need to trade up.

Stay at #4 and perhaps use 2-3 of our other picks to trade up into the teens.
