2012 NBA Free Agents

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Looking at the Eastern Conference next year, I think we should try and compete. The Bulls will be without Rose. The Celtics will be totally different. Orlando is done. I think Indiana is overrated.

The overall goal is to compete NEXT year AND to build a long term core.

Rumors are KG is considering Chicago depending on Rose's situation. This means he is willing to take quite a bit less to win. If this is the case we should make a run at him and show him what could be our plan.

KG- Offer 2 years at 12 Mil per.
Delonte- Offer 3 years 2.5 Mil per.
Kirilenko- Offer 3 years (team option on 3rd yr) at 6 Mil per. (we could also go after G Wallace here instead)

All the contracts are expiring when we start extending our young guns.

Draft: Trade 33 and 34 to Dallas for 17 (I think they want the cap space for free agency, they do this to get rid of the cap hold of the first rounder--I could be wrong, but I don't think 2nd rounders have cap holds)
4- Beal- He is my favorite prospect at the moment, I think he will be an elite shooter in the NBA--and a very good all around player.
17-Moultrie (or Leonard if still on the board)-floor spacing big-would compliment TT down the road
24-Jeff Taylor, I love this kid's game--he will help a team win some games with his D and is vastly improved long ball.

Irving-Delonte-Gibson(if he comes back at a discount)
Beal-Taylor
Kirilenko-Gee-Casspi
KG-TT (Tristan would be main backup for 4 and 5 and will get 30 minutes a night)
Andy-Moultrie

The defense would be ridiculously good. KG and Andy are almost perfect compliments--as KG is a floor spacing big who can pass. On D and on the boards we would be relentless. TT and Moultrie can learn from the most intense, hardest working big men in the league. Kirilenko played very well overseas last year-another elite level defender who can make an open three. Long Term I see Jeff Taylor our starting SF. Delonte is a maybe addition. As a backup one, spot minutes at the two, IF he is sane, he would be great. However if we feel Beal or Gibson can handle the backup PG minutes we might not bring Delonte in. If we couldn't get Wallace or Kirilenko, then we slide Taylor to the three behind Gee and def. bring Delonte in as backup 2.

VS Miami's best lineup
Irving-Chalmers--advantage Cavs
Beal-Wade--slight Heat--yes, I think Beal will be that good AND I think Wade is in a decline--which will only get worse next year
Kirilenko-Battier- draw?
KG-Lebron-Adv Heat--but KG's D, jump shot and intensity would be huge benefits
AV-Bosh-Draw--yes, I think what AV brings on D and the boards washes away Bosh's jump shooting

I think we are right there--and our bench would be better (well depending on what changes the Heat make to theirs). We would have TT, J Taylor, Gee, Gibson (yes, he didn't play great last year, but he can still defend and hit the three ball and he DOES have championship series experience), Moultrie.

During the season I would limit AV and KG to 25 to 30 minutes a night-TT would get 30 to 35 minutes and Moultrie whatever is left over.

I know it is a pipedream ...but if we could convince KG that we could win--there is a great fit here for him to win and win big. Once that domino falls, I think we can fill the rest in from there...

And we still have at least 2 first rounders next year to add to the long term core....

Bash away....

- bulls were fine without rose this year
- ak47 will get more money elsewhere
- that team can't "win and win big"
- kg will be offered contracts by teams that actually can "win and win big"
- positional "matchups" don't matter, heat would crush
- having so many rookies/sophmores doesn't bode well for winning
- cavs need another lottery pick (higher the better) next year for long-term success
- you are impatient

We wouldn't take back Delonte, sign KG, sign AK47.

I'm interested in Jarryd Bayless as a third guard, depending upon who the Cavs draft. He could probably swing between backup point with minutes as an undersized shooting guard next to Irving. I also see him as a buy low candidate after a few false starts to his career.

My favorite part of your response is how you imply YOUR opinions are facts.

- bulls were fine without rose this year
Yes, but they didn't get out if the first round without him. And there is a chance he won't be 100% until the 2013-14 season.

- ak47 will get more money elsewhere
Maybe. If money is #1 then we might not get him. We can go for other options here. I would be fine with Gee and Taylor at SF, both defend, both can hit an open three--Taylor would be an "older" rookie.

- that team can't "win and win big"
Another great opinion disguised as a fact. Tell me o wise one, why that team can't win. Great D, lots of shooters, play makers, and depth. Basically Rondo and KG took the Heat to 7 without much other help (Pierce was awful). I think Irving and KG would be better--and the rest of the team I put together is better also.

- kg will be offered contracts by teams that actually can "win and win big"
I did say this was a pipe dream..but KG did play in Minnesota, so I would think if he could win--the city might not matter as much to him. And we would be one of the best fits for him. Name a few of these teams that "can win big", that actually have the cap space. We can offer him quite a bit of money on a short contract. And he would get to play with an elite PG that can shoot it. A KG/Irving pick and roll would be even deadlier than a KG/Rondo pick and roll.

- positional "matchups" don't matter, heat would crush
Another awesome opinion--way to state your case. Having good players doesn't matter, Cavs would crush--see what I did there.

- having so many rookies/sophmores doesn't bode well for winning
We wouldn't be asking the rookies to do a ton of lifting and only one of the sophomores would be asked to do the heavy lifting and he is the one capable of doing it. This is a team built with both savy vets and young guys---and that would be on purpose--I want those young guys to learn from players like AV,KG, etc

- cavs need another lottery pick (higher the better) next year for long-term success
Your opinion again. I do not agree with this.

- you are impatient
Absolutely, life is short..why fuck around being average when you don't have to be. A team can be built many many many different ways. OKC would be the first team in a very long time to win primarily through lottery picks in the draft--and they still made some trades along the way and got very lucky with the Oden/Durant choice.

You don't even need to reply, I already know you want 20 top 5 picks on the same team. Small markets sucks. Can only build through draft..blah blah, same story different day. Forums are a place to throw random stuff out to discuss.

Why would KG NOT want to come here? Why would he be a bad fit? I personally think he would be a perfect fit with AV and TT and Kyrie. He showed this year he still has gas in the tank--especially if you rest him during the year.

For those of you that think we will suck next year...even if we don't sign any free agents, we are going to replace the sieve at PF with one that can actually play some D. The shots that the "jump shooter" put up will now go to others who will most likely make a higher percentage of said shots. We are probably going to replace Parker's corpse with a top 5 pick in Beal. TT and Irving will actually have a training camp and a full year under their belts. They are going to be a much improved team.

KG isn't coming here. IF he doesn't retire, he's going to go somewhere that gives him a chance to win a title. Cleveland has not demonstrated that they are capable of this.

Maybe if LeBron were still here and this team wasn't coming off two straight top-5 picks.

You guys actually want KG on this team...?

edit: not that he isn't a decent player at his age, but he is the exact kind of player the cavs SHOULDN'T be signing at this point in the rebuild. A very old player who could crash at any moment. Seems like an over-paid "veteran influence" guy to me. He's still a d-bag though.

Well so far it is only one of us guys. Me.

It is not like we would give him a 5 yr contract. It would be a 2 year, maybe team option for 3rd. Can he crash? Sure. Did you watch the playoffs? He was one of the 7 or 8 best players in the playoffs this year. He just might be the best defensive player in the league. He quarterbacked that Boston D. Very smart player. Is he a dirtbag? yes. Would I love him if he was on my team battling with AV and Kyrie. yes.

Also if you noticed I was not rebuilding anymore with my plan. I was competing AND rebuilding at the same time.

Bayless has talked a lot about wanting to get a chance to start, either in Toronto or elsewhere. I think the Cavs could use him if he is not able to get the situation he's looking for, but I think with Irving here, Cavs would be very low on his wishlist.

Cavs were listed as a possible suitor for the JET. I'd be okay with that. He's got the confidence that could be contagious for our young guys to carryover beyond Jet's tenure with the Cavs.

Ramon Sessions is going to opt out of the one year extension and hit FA. It would be hilarious if nobody pays him more than what he would have made.

I have no doubt he wants a chance to start, I just don't know what his value is around the league. He didn't play much in Portland and New Orleans because of the quality veterans ahead of him, then last year he struggled to stay healthy. I thought this past season should have been his breakout year, but he only played 31 games. Now he is due 4.16 million as a qualifying offer.

Will Toronto pay that much for a guy who hasn't proven much? Will they let the still young 23 year old test the waters and hope that other teams are scared off? Nobody knows yet, but I will be keeping an eye on it.

I like Bayless too...he had some moments this year where it looked like everything had finally "clicked" for him...but then Calderon came back and Bayless got hurt again...

Depending on what it costs, he is worth a look. He'd be an option as a guy who could backup Kyire while also playing some minutes alongside him at times.

My only concern would be that there are others who may be better suited for this role, like George Hill or Randy Foye. Although Bayless has more upside than guys like that.
