2012 NFL Draft Rumor Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

A source tells me Eagles & Browns talk all the time and 4th pick has come up but chances of an Eagles trade from 15 to 4 are slim to none
.

Interesting....I think I floated this idea earlier in this thread and got shot down. To me, the only guy Philly would be wanting to trade up for is Kalil, though they did just sign an LT to replace Peters. Here's something I think could work:

Browns Get:
#15
#46
#51
RT Todd Herremans

Eagles Get:
#4

This trade would give the Browns five picks in the top 51 of the draft. They would get a starting RT who is borderline top 10 in the NFL, and at 29 still has plenty of good years left in him. Dropping from #4 to #15 would suck, but the Browns could possibly use one of the extra 2nd rounders from Philly (plus one of our many later round picks if needed) to move back into the top 10 and snag Floyd. Then at 22 you're looking at BPA with guys like Glenn, Mercilus, Gilmore, Kirkpatrick, etc. At 37 we'd be likely looking at a choice of Harrison Smith, Doug Martin, Chandler Jones, Andre Branch, Kendall Reyes, Jenkins, (Weeden?). At 46 the Browns could snag Zach Brown, Lavonte David, Alfonzo Dennard, Lamar Miller, David Wilson, Amini Silatolu, and so on.

As much as I would hate to pass up an RB as good as Richardson, if the Browns could finish the first and second round of the draft with something resembling the following I'd be absolutely thrilled:

Floyd
Mercilus
Martin
David
Herremans

That's five quality players, all of which could be starters from day 1. As I said, only way I see the Eagles wanting to move up is if Kalil is available. Otherwise, we take Trent and never look back.

^my favorite draft scenario ive seen yet. i never considered trying to pry herremans away from philly.

Totally cool with this.

Though I doubt they include Herremens in the deal, I'd take a second next year in his stead.

Even more reason to draft Richardson.

Trent Richardson is taking a leukemia survivor to prom

Trent Richardson is going to prom.
The former Alabama running back and Heisman finalist will take time out of his workout schedule to accompany 17-year-old Courtney Alvis, a leukemia survivor, to her senior prom at Hueytown (Ala.) High School on Saturday.
Wow, getting a little dusty in here.
Alvis spent the past year going through chemotherapy. She said she couldn't leave the house for fear of germs on her compromised immune system. She used a walker to get around. She missed her junior prom because doctors said she had to wear a mask and gloves to attend. And as her senior prom approached she had trouble getting a date.
That's when her uncle, who had ties to the Alabama program, stepped in and started putting the word out. Richardson heard about Alvis and decided to help.
"I'm really excited but I'm also nervous," Alvis told television station WSFA. "I've watched Trent all the time on TV, and he's going to be coming to prom with me."
This is one of those great feel-good stories where an athlete uses his fame for good. Richardson is just a couple weeks away from the NFL draft, the biggest day of his life, and he's taking time out to make this young lady's prom all that she hoped it would be.

If Floyd was guaranteed to be there at 15 I think we seriously have to look at it. However; with Jacksonville, Miami (if Philly moves up to take Tannehill), Carolina, Buffalo and Arizona all legit spots for Floyd to land, I don't think he lasts until 15.

Floyd won't be there at 15. I half expect him to be drafted before Blackmon. I think at 15 Kendall Wright would be a top target. 15, 22, 37, 46, and 51 have the potential to change the entire offense. Can you imagine Wright, Fleener, Martin, Weeden, and Mitchell Schwartz? Talk about a revamped offense! Use the remaining picks on defense.

There are a number of good prospects in that range.

And a guy like Richardson or Blackmon can absolutely slide that far if they're not taken in the 4-8 range where there are a couple teams in need of skill guys.

If not them, guys like Cordy Glenn, Luke Kuechly, Stephen Hill, Riley Reiff. All those guys are good prospects.

Could you imagine making that deal and still ending up with Richardson?

The Browns deserve it, after all this time, quite frankly.

It's annoying as a fan but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Just take Richardson and give him the ball 20-23 times, and throw him the ball 5 times out of the backfield. Stop trying to be cure and take an impact player who will help you win games.

The idea of trading down to select an OL, ILB or WR who played in an option offense is not appealing to me when you have Richardson in your grasp now.

I do agree with you that the Browns deserve a break like Richardson dropping but I don't think there is a chance in hell he drops out of the top 10.

Never said Floyd would be there at 15. I said we'd have to move back into the top 10 to get him, but with the extra picks we got from Philly it wouldn't be that big of a deal. I think if we were to stand pat at 15, Jonathan Martin might be a more likely target, and then we look at Wright or Stephen Hill at 22. Would still like Doug Martin at 37, and then we likely go defense with 46 and 51.

One thing I was just thinking about. Say we do make a deal with Philly and pick up all those extra picks. If we draft Doug Martin at 37 and LaMichael James is still sitting there when our 3rd round pick comes up at 67, how would you feel about doubling up at RB? They would be great compliments, as Martin is more of a between the tackles guy and James has speed to burn. I wouldn't do it if we only had 4, 22, and 37, but if we had 5 picks in the first two rounds it's something I'd consider.

no RB can stand up to 30 hits a game, for several season in a row, which is of course the problem with looking at taking a RB at the 4 spot.

Guys guys guys. How about we draft Tannehill at #4 and Weeden at #22. As they are learning the QB position, we can place Tannehill at WR and Weeden can go to either the Clippers or Aeros. No harm done. We get both QBs we wanted and i see no way we can lose.

Normally I would agree with you, but with the likes of David Wilson, Lamar Miller and Doug Martin available with one of the other picks in the first two rounds...my level of caring for that subsides.

Would you rather have:

Trent Richardson

OR

15
Doug Martin
At least one more second round pick.

I think long and hard about that decision, and how elite I really expect Richardson to be. For that package, the Browns would have to consider him an Adrian Peterson type talent.

I don't see the play makers we need at 15. It's kind of no-mans land. A bunch of guys like DeCastro, Glenn, Martin, Barron, Kirpatrick, Gilmore and others are there who could fill a need for us but I don't necessarily think we need to spend a 1st round pick on. Other guys who could make a difference but have significant questions marks, Mercilius and Coples. It's a reach at that point to get a guy like Kendall Wright too. So I'm not high on the spot. If we could get Michael Floyd there I might change my tune because you're essentially trading Richardson for Floyd, Doug Martin and your boy Brandon Weeden. Who wouldn't like that, right :chuckles: I just don't see Floyd slipping that far as too many teams with needs at WR are in front of Philly.

If the Browns are super high on a guy like Kendall Wright and think he's better than Floyd, then I can see him making this deal. If not, even the Browns brass would have a hard time justifying trading T Rich for the 3rd best offensive tackle in the draft and 2 2nd rounders.
