Well yes, part of the NFL contracts are guaranteed...and I'd imagine Flynn would get a great deal of guaranteed money written into his deal.

And furthermore, the team which acquires him probably will not be releasing him after one season considering they just spent a second round pick on him to be their starting QB.

And again, they can lock up Finley to a long term deal before they need to designate a franchise tag...and this would remain a possibility if that happens.

Per a source with knowledge of the situation, Finley could be planning to argue that he’s a wide receiver. The argument would be based on the number of plays in which Finley is lined up wide or in the slot at the snap, either via the initial alignment or after going in motion.

It would be a huge difference. With the projected franchise number for receivers expected to be in the range of $9.5 million, that’s a $4 million gap.

Okay. Say Luck goes first overall and there is no other way for us to trade up for him, I'd look for options to get Manning. Manning's contract is huge. Indy needs to re-sign several receivers for Luck to succeed so they might cut Manning to open up cap room. So why dont we go after Manning. Sign him to a 2-3years deal. If he can play, thats great! If he cant play anymore, just let him stay and mentor our young QBs and then get him a job as a QB coach or something. If we dont get an OC, I would seriously consider putting Manning there. We all know how intelligent he is and how he can easily read the defense. Win Win.
 
Ya because two to three years of a patched up fused neck manning who is one good hit away from being done would be a great way to turn the browns around!

High risk high reward. Manning is top 5 best QB of all time. His brain is still there once he retires from playing football. He wants to coach so why not give him the chance?

So whats your plan for the off season? Doubt it would be any better.
 
Ok let me ask you after two years have passed and manning is done and were back to square one being no closer to a superbowl then we are now what do we do to fix the qb position?? I'm not in it to have two decent seasons and back to crap! I want a superbowl and not just one I want multiple superbowls! If the front office identifies a qb available this year that is the future go get him whether it's RG3 or Flynn go get him! If they cannot get that guy or do not think either is that guy then you go with McCoy and see if he can develop further! If he does problem solved if not more holes are filled this offseason making a trade up next year more feisable to go get that guy!

Further more manning won't even come here if he's let go he will go to a more contender ready team! Further more I would not even think about trading one of our first round draft picks for him because that's what it would take! By the way you should stop with your loser mentality because you are looking for a two year fix to this problem instead of thinking big picture! How has that worked out in the past!

Wait what? He's gonna be cut so he'll be a free agent. No trading needed. I know there are other teams that are interested so why shouldnt we? Okay give me an example then.
 
Jeff Garcia (Cleveland) Trent dilfer(Cleveland), steve McNair(Baltimore),chad pennington ( Miami), Brett farve (jets and Vikings) I'm sure Washington can be thrown into this mix over the last decade with how their qb play has been as well as Tampa bay and Oakland! Most of these teams who went with qbs whom have had sucsess in the nfl fell off the map directly after these qbs left town or fizzled out from age or skill! Baltimore is the best example of the they went from 13-3 to crap after McNair declined in skills! They didn't become contenders again until flacco! I'm sure there are many more examples but that's what I can think of off the top of my head! No doubt Peyton is better then all the guys mentioned ahead but he will diminish in skills very soon and it will all be for nothing!

Manning is 35, not 37. And if Manning is indeed cut at any point, we would be stupid not to give him a look. We aren't talking about Jeff Garcia or Trent Dilfer here, we're talking about a top 5 QB... maybe best QB... ever.

Let's say the following scenario played out:

Manning gets cut, signs with Browns.
Browns grab Blackmon at 4, and a RT or LB at 22.
Browns sign top tier WR who wants to come to Cleveland now that we have Peyton Manning.
Browns still have McCoy as a backup, and the option to draft a QB with their 1st rounder next year.

Would you be upset with this somehow?
