2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

PF will never be an issue...LeBron and Marion both spent a lot of time there last season, and we can afford to play them there for big minutes if necessary with Miller and Jones available at SF. What we really need is a good durable center.
Lebron ' s weight loss makes it less likely he plays the 4 this year. I'd imagine we run the small ball only in the 4th if necessary. Plus I'm looking for any excuse to cut his minutes.

I do think that Tristan and Love could eat up minutes at C but especially with an injuries factored we need another big. Ideally I completely agree a rim protecting center is easily the best fit but at this point any decent big who can eat up minutes would work as a stop gap.

Well if it comes down to Ray Allen or E'twaun Moore for the minimum, the Cavs can offer less to E'twaun than Ray and get similar production.

Give me a champion vet over a 3rd string nobody every time.

I say we pick up Ekpe Udoh just until we can find a serviceable center. He sucks, but the things he sucks at is what the rest of the team will be great at

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

What's wrong with playing a 4 on the perimeter? That's obviously going to be a big part of what we do with Love

EDIT: And something else I should note, since people seem to be penciling in TT at backup center. Love played significant minutes at center last year, many many more than Tristan did. What's more, according to 82games he put up a whopping 35.0 PER while playing center. Small ball lineups like Irving-Waiters-James-Marion-Love could be lethal.

I was primarily referring to our perimeter defense, not perimeter offense.
I don't want Marion to bang down low against other PF's. He is more valuable guarding perimeter players (small forwards/shooting guards), imo.

I see the value of having championship experience around young guys that have never been to a finals game or post season before. E'twaun could have a role on this team but a guy like Ray Allen can add much more than just 3 point shooting. In the end the size of a minimum contract doesn't matter. I'm all for going after Ray Allen.

Playing against, say the Dallas Mavericks, Marion covering Dirk would be nice.

Gustavo Ayon for the min? He just played well for Mexico against Puerto Rico, he's 6'10

I know that Mozgov was being discussed here as the (needed) rim protector, but I didn't see it was mentioned here that Blatt wants him as well, so I post this tweet:

who is that? :chuckles:

Re: 2014 Free Agency Period: News and Discussion (Marion watch)

According to Hoopshype: Indiana offered Roy Hibbert and Chris Copeland for Goran Dragic...

Seems like Hibbert could be had for the right package... Would be a good rim protector but would we have a package that could entice Indiana?

Who would you use to match salary? Virtually not doable.

Goran Dragic trade offer from Pacers included Roy Hibbert

"According to a rough Google translation from Slovenian website Ekipa24.si, the Indiana Pacers put center Roy Hibbert and forward Chris Copeland on the table..."

What the...!? :chuckles::chuckles:

How does he know neither trade will happen? If the cavs made an offer for either player couldn't they up their offer? I hate this kind of reporting.

Kyle O'Quinn would be another option. Can play PF and Center.
Averaged 5.3 RPG and 1.3 BPG in only 17.2 minutes last season.
The question is: Whou would we trade for him?
