2015 Cleveland Browns Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So it'll prolly be Hackenberg (If he continues to recover his season) or an auction for Goff if Jax gets the pick

woo hoo

Or more likely...

We stay competitive for the next 8 games, and we go into next season with McCown and Manziel, no QB drafted.

I don't completely trust McCown to hold up at 36, I sure as hell don't trust him at 37 especially with the way he holds the ball too long

He's perfectly fine as long as he holds up, but that's exactly the problem

Sad but true.

That said, Josh McCown man. I caught the second half at the bar after work. It was a blast. I haven't had that kind of fun watching the Browns in a while. Offense that moves the damn ball!

Like the way Josh is playing. We still need a QB of the future. Not sure how we're going to get one, but I like McCown as the guy paving the way for him.

Yup, McCown can definitely handle running an NFL offense. It's just unfortunate he is already 36. I can't see us getting into the playoffs, but hopefully we see some of the young players develop this season to give some hope towards the future. This game was ugly through 3 quarters, I'm shocked they pulled it off.

Saying they brought in Dwayne Bowe to be a #1 receiver is disingenuous. So is insinuating that his presence some how deterred them from drafting a "top flight" wide receiver early.

A rookie wide receiver was the only thing separating them from a playoff appearance last season?

Sorry...nah.

So Odell Beckham would not have helped the Browns win an extra couple games last season? Certainly possible it wouldn't have, but I mean...it'd have been preferable to what they got instead.

For the "rookie sitting on the bench" learning model to work I think you need to be winning. If we are winning 6-7 games a year playing the McCown's and Hoyer's of the world, what are we really gaining over throwing a young guy out there and letting him take is lumps?

No matter what, it's not like any rookie/inexperienced QB is just going to walk in and play veteran level football for the most part without having to take some lumps and growing pains. There is never a good time.

New coaches usually do that process early in their tenure because it is time to win by year 3 (if they get that long). I don't see where or how a transition process even happens at this point with Pettine if he's coming off back to back losing seasons and his job is entirely on the line season 3.

So play the young guy. Fuck. We don't even have him on the roster yet and we're debating whether or not to play a young QB or play the veteran?

He said using the Manziel pick to draft a WR.

So Beckham would not have been available.

Josh Gordon was on a historic tear and he won the Browns how many games? 1, maybe 2? WR is a luxury pick, not a necessity.

I still think it's funny that in the midst of a record-breaking performance by McCown, people were clamoring for Manziel in the game thread.

That place is...a...social experiment of sorts. :party smiley 004:

I wouldn't exactly say people were "clamoring" for him. Most people were saying how great McCown looked.

This is your fifth "social experiment" reference I can remember from you.

McCown has been utterly awesome. I was pretty vocal about not playing him simply because I thought it wasn't worth winning a handful of games but not really threatening to be a playoff team. But he has been absolutely fantastic and after beating Baltimore and getting a sputtering Denver team next week at home, I mean who knows I guess. The schedule is still tough but the win @Baltimore and KC losing Charles potentially shifted their win total by +2 today. That's really why the Oakland game stings so much. 3-2 with two winnable games coming up would have been interesting......oh well.

I still can't believe the defense is just absolutely awful though. The offense just really seems unlikely to sustain this stretch and I was hoping the defense would show some steady improvement. That just hasn't happened. Really, the only reason Baltimore gave the Browns a chance to win was because they kept trying to get cute in the passing game. They racked up 180+ yards on nearly 6.0 YPC and they were dicking around in the redzone trying to throw passes in the flat to their FB when the game was on the line

Okay, Ray Farmer. Because a player at a position is playing amazingly and the team still sucks, suddenly that position is simply a luxury and does not impact the game?

Just the worst logic ever. I'm embarrassed for anyone with that take.

Meanwhile, that corner the Browns took at #8 sure is impacting the team positively and racking up the wins for Pettine. Glad they decided to go with a player that affects the game on more than 3-4 plays a game. #Farmerthink
