2015 Cleveland Browns Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Keep the focus on Browns players and coaches, not each other.

Mack announced tonight through a release that he won't be waiving his no trade clause, so wipe him off the board for any potential trades.

Can he only get out of his deal after this year? Or are there other options in the next three years?

People really think the Browns will be able to upgrade the HC position after going thru 3 in 4 years?

That's laugh out loud funny. Do you guys have a clue about what the perception of the Browns is around the NFL? It's not good. It's probably worse than before they hired Pettine and it was bad then!

Do you think coaches don't notice when your OC tries to get himself fired last year? Or when your GM is suspended for texting the coaches on the sidelines? Or when the front office is nowhere to be found while the HC faces the media firing squad regarding Johnny Manziel's domestic incident?

The Browns have a long way to go, in a professional sense, before they can attract any coaches in demand. Stability would help this organization.

Also, do people really expect the Browns to win these games when looking at our roster? Honestly, when you look at the roster, do you guys think we're more talented than teams like the Cardinals or Steelers?

Two full years is pretty stable for this team :chuckle:

Honestly though, what would be your ideal offseason? If the players are the problem then are you bringing in a new GM? If so, what makes you think they won't want to hire their own guy (like I'm sure Farmer wishes he had been able to when he got his first job)? Also, what makes you have faith that Pettine will get better with more time?

I agree 100% about wanting continuity but there HAS to be a reason to stick with Pettine aside from continuity... a football reason.

Since 2013, our points scored ranking has gone from 27th to 25th. Our defense has gone from 23rd to 26th. We can't even execute on the fundamentals; we're one of the most penalized teams in the league (Top 10 in penalties per game). 4-12 was good enough to get Chud fired; we're on pace for the same record.

The team I see on the field on Sunday isn't markedly better than they were before this regime took over. All that ridiculous stuff you mentioned happened UNDER Farmer and Pettine. Why on earth should we give them another year when all we'd really be doing is ignoring their track record and praying they pull a 180?

Opt out after this year only

A trade would be the first thing he has blocked all season

And your choice is Doug Marrone, who is .500 or below in both his college and pro career as a head coach.

Superb.
My choice is a competent NFL coach who came in and turned around a franchise very similar to the Browns who has never been fired. If you knew half as what you act like you do, you'd know he did an amazing job at Syracuse, regardless of record, being that its Syracuse. Such a good job that he was hired as an NFL head coach. Meanwhile, the Bills go their little "players coach" and are back to being losers. If I were Marcel Dareus, I'd be butt-hurt too that my coach would rather be an OL coach for the Jags than coach me.

Meanwhile...you'd rather stick with a coach who is 9-14 (thats only going to get worse) and whose team has actually regressed in year 2.

Dude, Doug Marrone sucks.

Oh, and there was that whole thing where he literally quit on his team.

Sticking with the guy who is 9-14, as opposed to getting excited for the guy who is 15-17 and then abandoned his team.

Six of one, really...

I really wish we would have stuck with Chud.

But at the same time it depends on how much James cares. You guys are really downplaying the role money plays here. Yeah we are a dumpster fire, and no one who has other options would be smart to come here. But money makes people do stupid things. I wouldn't worry about being an undesirable place because in the end there is no cap to how much a coach makes, and adding the 9 million dollars per year in Dwayne Bowe expenses to the current coaching salary will get you mostly whoever you want. All depends on how much Jim wants to open the checkbook, but money talks guys.

A league source confirmed the team has actively engaged in discussions to acquire “assets” – draft picks -- by trading players no longer in the team’s future plans. The source said the person pushing this strategy is President Alec Scheiner, who appears to have gained inroads in football operations.

This is terrifying. We have another Joe Banner in our midst. A bean counter not content to just deal with the money side of things, he wants to wedge his way into a football operation in which he has absolutely no background.

This organization is a mess, and Jimmy has no control over that building.

In before someone suggests firing Pettine and hiring Wisenhunt.

It seems like Joe Haden is not on the block. If I'm right, out of curiosity, why? My theory is if we are willing to trade are pro-bowl left tackle -- something I'm not opposed to -- why not offer up our former pro-bowl corner that has taken a step back? This whole process just seems inconsistent. Either have a fire-sale or don't. But don't half-ass it, that's how you get stuck where we are in the first place.

I wouldn't believe anything reported by Cle media until something actually happens.
