2015 Cleveland Browns Regular Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
This is an absolutely brutal way of looking at team building. I know the popular opinion is that Farmer is a fool and terrible at drafting, but we're only half a season through one draft class and a season and a half through the other. Give these guys time to develop.

No. Top picks in the NFL should be making big contributions almost immediately, they should not need time to develop. Our guys can't even get on the field.

That's great in theory, but not really how it works in reality.

Leonard Williams only has .5 sacks so far, so does that make him a bust? Or should we see if he's better in year two like Mario Williams was?

I mean, I agree that it's disappointing that our firsts haven't made more of an impact, imo it's crazy to assume they're all worthless so far. Gilbert is stuck behind two quality vets (although I agree it's surprising he can't beat out Desir and the others to be the primary backup on the outside), Johnny was supposed to need lots of development time (which is why a lot of people didn't want him) and is doing that behind a vet playing quite well, Shelton is playing loads but there is a lot wrong with the defense to pin it all on him, and Erving is waiting in the wings for when Mack leaves (although I'm surprised he can't beat out Grecco but he wasn't drafted to be a guard and so may not be that great at it).

If those guys still can't play in a year or two then I'll agree that were huge misses, but it's too early in my opinion to say that now.

In all honesty, I feel like they should have just gone through with it. That Denver 1st in 2017 has the potential to be a top 5-10 pick. Manning will almost certainly retire at the end of the year. Von Miller is a UFA so he too could be gone. Losing those two could send the Broncos into the abyss.

I wouldn't have wanted to give up the 3rd, but I feel like there's no chance the Browns will be able to get similar value for Thomas in the offseason given the many reasons people have already stated. At the end of the day, it's obvious this team needs blown up. I feel like the Browns will regret not making that trade come the offseason.

One more thing: Gipson, Schwartz, Robertson, Barnidge, and Benjamin are all unrestricted free agents this offseason. There's a very strong possibility that none of those guys are wearing Browns uniforms next year.

To me, Gipson is the only one I see returning as the Browns would likely use the franchise tag in him. Barnidge and Benjamin? We'd have to drastically overpay to keep either one of them around given the nightmare situation at QB. They'll both get good offers from far better teams with settled QB situations.

I think they'll try to re-sign Schwartz, but I have a feeling he heads elsewhere. Ditto for Robertson.

Gotta keep the talent you have on team. The Browns suck because they can't draft. So let's give up our 8 time pro bowler for more draft picks?

Jesus Christ this argument gets more annoying every time it's conjured from years of angst and too much Cleveland.com

The talent in question is 30+ and is likely to be cashing out whenever this team has a hope of being competitive.

Watching Thomas grow old and regress is a nice thought, but the value of having those two picks is integral in trying to turn this franchise around.

I don't give a shit if they drafted four Manziel's in the last two years, you make the move knowing you have to do something with that value. Because the value Thomas will provide is not likely to give you more than what those two picks COULD.

Hope they give Pep Hamilton a look next season when we are needing coaches.

initially i thought the top 5-10 pick at first, and even though i love joe thomas i thought "man that pick could be awesome". then i remember all the articles ive read this year about the broncos and about the fact that its the defense thats been dominating not the offense. after that i suspect that yeah the 17 pick will be better than the '16 pick but it will still most likely be in the 15-25 range. not the 5-10 range. at which point i would rather have thomas

You're forgetting that it could have helped us to move up in the draft. I know it's hard to understand as Browns fan but it is allowed.

We suck with Joe Thomas, we can suck without him. I wouldn't have been upset if that was indeed the haul, but I'm not surprised that a beleaguered front office didn't make a very unpopular decision that they would likely never see the fruits of. These guys are in full on job saving mode.
