2015 Draft Prospects

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I don't see any reason whatsoever that Tampa wouldn't take a QB.

Mike Glennon wasn't even drafted by that regime, and he's proven to be quite awful.

Tennessee, New York, Washington and Tampa should all be in that market.

With that said, I'm not as over-the-moon for Mariota as others are. Not sure he's worth the inevitable price tag.

Good call, I forgot it was a different regime in Tampa.

CBS just did an article on him, so the "under the radar" label is a thing of the past, but Colorado State's Garrett Grayson is a guy I really like in the middle rounds.

Good arm, accurate, seems to be pretty smart with the football and can move around in the pocket.

If you're looking for a fast-riser who will take advantage of a less than stellar QB class, South Alabama's Brandon Bridge is going to be that guy. He'll show off elite arm strength and prove he's a hell of an athlete this off-season and rise up draft boards. Wouldn't surprise me to see him end up in the second when it's all said and done:

Not a huge fan of taking QBs so since we can fill so many holes with the number of picks. With the way Josh Gordon is regressing, Our O-Line is leaking, Our defense is shaking - I feel like we can fill in a lot of our needs with these draft picks.

Yea I really think if we draft well with both lines as a primary focus, along with a TE or WR and a pass rusher we can really solidify the talent on this team. Plus I am also not crazy about the QBs in this draft.

There is a successful school of thought you take a qb in almost every draft. I don't think many are saying take one in the first 2 rounds, but you never know when the next great non 1st round qb is there.

You cant afford not to hedge the position unless you have an under 30 franchise qb. So GB, Seattle and Indy are safe, the rest of the league should be looking.

Fair enough ... The question is we need tp give them all

Im down with taking a non-first round draft pick - before that we might want to give Connor Shaw a shot too ... fair enough ?

The Browns don't need to focus on the offensive line, they need to get the offensive line healthy going into next season.

I was thinking about Shaw too, maybe he could be our "qb pick" this year. I wonder how he looks in practice. He looked decent in the preseason although he was going allot of players who didn't even make the squad in 4th qtrs.

Oregon's Marcus Mariota wins Heisman Trophy in historic landslide
The Oregon quarterback has a pass efficiency rating of 186.33. That’s third-highest in FBS history, trailing only Russell Wilson (191.78) and Robert Griffin III (189.7), both from 2011 – and by the time the season is over he might surpass them. Only five quarterbacks in the last seven years averaged more than his 10.2 yards per attempt. Mariota has thrown 38 touchdowns and two interceptions, a 19-to-1 ratio bettered by only one QB in the last seven seasons (South Carolina’s Connor Shaw was 24-to-1 last year). His 9.1 yards per play yards per play running and passing is third-highest among all quarterbacks in the last seven seasons.

With 53 total touchdowns (38 passing, 14 rushing, one receiving) Mariota has an outside shot at Colt Brennan’s NCAA FBS record of 63 TDs set in 2006 if he plays two more games.

I mean, Weeden? Did ANYBODY think he'd be good? :chuckle: And Manziel was just a wild card. None of these guys were trumpeted as the next big thing.
I think people did think Weeden would be good, considering we took him in the first round. Also, Manziel was just as, if not, more hyped than Brady Quinn was in 2006-7. We have taken QBs that were hyped. Just never the #1 guy (minus Couch).

I don't recall anybody defending the Weeden pick. Manziel is almost universally thought to be a project in the NFL. I'm not talking about just taking a QB in the first round. I'm talking about legitimately getting the #1 or #2 QB in a strong QB draft, not trying to add more qualifiers to it but you should know what I mean. I want that big time quarterback that everybody has just got to have. Quinn fell. Nobody else wanted Manziel, he fell. Nobody wanted Brandon fucking Weeden, come on. Couch is legitimately the last guy, and who knows, he may have been good if the team wasn't utter shit around him.

I remember being really pissed off after that draft and the majority of people agreeing. Such an awful first round...

Oh, I recall that defense vividly.

I'll own up to the Weeden thing. I liked him coming out of school. I thought he'd have an immediate impact and would be best prepared for the NFL given his age. Also, he could DESTROY clay pigeons throwing a football.

I'll qualify it and say I wanted him with the 2nd round pick, which he would have been available there as well. I wanted Kendall Wright at 22 that year but he went a pick or 2 before us. Even after that happened, I thought we should have waited until the 2nd round. Oh well. I was wrong.

I gotta say, I'm impressed with myself. Dec 15th is the first time I'm actively paying attention to draft stuff. Well done Browns. Last year I started closely paying attention to mock drafts after week 1.

Return of the Mack
I would like a guard with center experience to add to depth but agreed it doesn't need to be primary focus .
