2015 Draft Prospects

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
No need to reach at 19, none. We can't miss on 12 and 19, way too many holes in need of impact players for the next 5 years. we can't afford the "we could do worse outlook in this draft" The first three selections (unless we take a qb in round 2 who needs some time to sit at the start) need to be studs that help this team win games from Day 1. You can't preach building though the draft and then start taking unnecessary risks with your most valuable assets. Also, the possibility we might take Petty in round 2 makes it even more vital we hit on starters at 12 and 19.NT and pass rusher is fine with me, as long as we get a decent Wr or starting caliber TE in the first three to four rounds.

I agree with Boobie about the RB from Auburn. Good value for a mid to late draft pick.

You may thinking he's a reach but he's graded by most of the scouts as a 1st/2nd round prospect so he's in the ballpark. I like the concept of a guy who can create mismatches on the field and that is what Funchess will do either vs LBs or smaller corners. Now the question is and will always be with him, will he take advantage of those mismatches?

I obviously agree with you, Farmer can't miss on the 1st round this year but that can be said about every year. Plus, I think Gilbert will turn it around and be a productive player starting next season. The talent is there he just needs to get his head screwed on straight. Gilbert making an impact will soften the blow of last year even though the whole Manziel thing is hard to get over.

Him being a "mismatch" guy is what defines him as a reach at that level of the draft.

I think his prowess as a red-zone threat is nice. But at that level of the first round, you're looking at guys who aren't role players.

Funchess is a tweener, and the Browns shouldn't be in the business of adding a complimentary piece so much as they should be looking for foundation type players at positions of need.

Funchess isn't that guy, and his exaggerated 40 time isn't going to change that.

Why take a guy who has a second round grade ( I have seen as low as mid to late second round grades by scouts) at 19 (who as major question marks with his ability to play Wr at the pro level when there are other players that will be ranked much higher on your board? Now if Farmer has him ranked as a top 20 guy, then okay. It would be a reach in my opinion, and there is no need for us to be reaching in the first round.
I would think fixing the run defense is going to have be addressed at 12 or 19, and we also need another pass rusher to pair with kruger not named Mingo. Plus even if you wanted to go WR there will be much better Wr prospects at both 12 and 19.
On top of that we may using a pick on Petty or Hundley in the early rounds, plus we are in need of a starting caliber TE (maybe you think Funches can become one, but that would be a major project to take on in round 1 and very unnecessary one at that. There are plenty of players who have less question marks in the top 20 that would be albe to come in start, play significant downs and make this team better right away. I am not sure Funches would even start if they signed Bowe, or frankly be on the field for more then 10-15 snaps. Not what you want from your 12th or 19th selection when the draft is your only major chance to upgrade the roster.

The point of my original post was not to say Funchess should be the pick at 19, it was that he wasn't the worst idea. IMO, there are better picks but I can make the rationalization on the pick based on what he can do and the make up of our team currently.

The Browns really need a couple of red zone targets. With Cameron we looked terrible with the midgets Gabriel/Hawkins/Benjamin and now without Cameron we look even worse. Hartline will only slightly help. We need more big bodies that can box out and create space in a condensed area.

Sounds like you are making a good argument for Strong at 19 from ASU. Which would be a viable option.

I like Jaelen Strong an awful lot. Outside of Cooper/White/Parker, I haven't dug into WRs much. However; what I have done thus far has left me with a positive vibe on Strong.

Bizarre, really. It isn't like he is in danger of sitting for hours in the green room. He is going up on stage 1-15 minutes after the Bucs go on the clock. For a guy who loves the adulation I just find it odd.

Exactly why his people would tell him to skip. Needs to fix his brand, but in reality the schedule these guys go on during that weekend is pretty wild.

Passed around from event to event, interview after interview. I can't fault anyone for skipping all that nonsense.

Meh. I can't fault certain players, but not everyone. He is the logical no. 1. He doesnt have to attend everything, he can just show up for the draft. Is there a time requirement by the NFL? To attend a player must be there from time A to time B? I can get why his agent may not want him doing unfettered interviews all day since something is bound to slip but that doesn't mean he can't show up an hour before, stay and talk for an hour after, and then book. Again unless the NFL has a set required schedule for all attendees. Only real logical reasons for someone like him would be that he doesn't want to say something dumb as you said. In a way I guess I can get behind him denying Roger the photo opp.

I would imagine in exchange for agreeing to come to the draft he's obligated to take part in these events.

Moreover, I'd think skipping them would be exactly the type of thing he's trying to avoid.

Of course, he could always attend events hungover and sleep under the table or something. I know a guy he can call for advice on that.

With the Browns losing Sheard and losing out on Cole, I wonder if OLB jumps into the conversation in the first round. A Shelton/Brown at 12 and Ray/Dupree at 19 first round won't put more points on the scoreboard or help Manziel develop, but it would make the defense formidable.

Lorenzo Mauldin is another OLB I would like the Browns to look at should be there in the second/third. Good character and high motor.

If Ray is there at 12 (forgot about 19) I would have a difficult time passing him up. He makes this defense better the first day he steps on the field. You should still be bable to get a decent DT at 19.
