2015 NFL Draft Thread - April 30 - May 2 - Chicago, IL

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They just simulated again and this time had the Titans asking for

12, 19, 2016 1st, 2016 2nd, and Joel Bitonio. Browns said no.

Polian is picking for the Browns. Doesn't like Shelton at all. Something about him only being a 2 down player.

Savage likes DeVante Parker.

None of this is true and hilariously false, IMO.

Mariota is the guy you DREAM about being able to get. Big, fast, strong arm, accurate, works hard...

Well, that's your opinion, since we have zero evidence to go on how good he'll be in the NFL.

If they consider giving future first round picks for him, they're absolutely desperate, end of story. His value is definitely not that high as a prospect. He's not Andrew Luck!

Probably on a pretty similar level to RGIII, so I'd imagine three first rounders would be the going rate.

I don't give it up either, but splitting hairs over his prospect status isn't the reason why.

If that's true, then:

You have zero evidence that he isn't the next Andrew Luck.

The fact that guys like Luck seem to be a once every decade or 2 occurrence pretty much backs it up.

That and everyone knew Luck would be a stud years before he committed to the draft. There's also the pro-style offense.

While it's possible he is that good, odds are against that being the case. Not saying he won't be great, I like him a lot. But I highly doubt he's the next Luck.

The Browns took Parker in the simulation at 12.

I am speaking at a prospect standpoint, not what he'll be. I don't dislike him, but there are serious questions about him entering this draft, too. Andrew Luck was as sure as a prospect as it get's. If you think at a prospect standpoint he's the same, then you're wrong. How he develops is an entirely different question.

Giving up multiple picks/and a future is a huge gamble for a guy, that well, might not work out in the NFL. I think this is the last thing this organization needs to do personally.

If it's just their 2 first rounders this year, I don't love it, but it's understandable.

I'm not saying he will be, just pointing out a logical fallacy.

The QB you draft will always "well, might not work out in the NFL." Like someone else pointed out, the Browns are not ever going to be 2-14 or 1-15 in the foreseeable future. They will not be having a top pick to acquire the next Andrew Luck any time soon. If you want a franchise QB, it is going to come from a trade.

Now maybe you don't believe Mariota is the guy. That's certainly reasonable. I'm not quite sure myself. But if the Browns think he is, they have to do this trade. They have to.

What are the biggest knocks against Mariota? The system he comes from? How much of a knock is that these days when almost none of these QBs come from pro style systems?

What is wrong with this organization.

Every year, they need to out do themselves, and do something even more asinine than the year before.

I am sorry, Mariota is not the kind of QB you trade multiple first round picks for.

This is just a desperate organization willing to make desperate moves.

Some of this is waxing it on a little thick. Mariotta has really, really strong measurables.

6-4 and 219 pounds. 9-7/8 hands. 4.5 sec 40. Compact release.

He's precisely the kind of guy you overpay for. Measurables, talent, character and work ethic.

I'm not saying he's a perfect prospect but he has almost all the tools you look for in a QB. He's going to be rough around the edges early on but he has so many physical gifts you can't teach, along with the work ethic and intangible markers you want a QB to have.

There probably will never be another Andrew Luck prospect. If we planned on waiting around for that, then, I will confidently die knowing the Browns never done shit in my lifetime.

The reason cyclical patterns never end is that people never step back and realize there is a pattern. They just do the same thing over and over.

The Browns have reached in the first round on a quarterback undeserving of starting in the NFL three previous times in the past eight drafts. Why go for a fourth when the last attempt happened less than a calendar year ago? I think the Browns are on the hook for attempting to develop Manziel. They need a veteran starter and draft other key positions to bolster the total talent level.

Please tell me this is hyperbole. I mean, how out-of-touch is that analyst?

That's the kind of offer/asking price that gets the other negotiator to walk away insulted without further discussion.

Keys, so you're under the impression Mariotta is underserving of starting in the NFL?

Most grades have him graded at a level where he could potentially start as a rookie.

Should he? I have no clue but there appears to be MILES between the evaluations of Mariota and Weeden, Manziel, etc.
