2017 Browns Off Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The Titans second rounder and a 2nd rounder next year is more than fair compensation for James.

If it makes it a tough pill to swallow just look at it like this:

Pats receive
#52 overall pick in 2017
2nd round pick in 2018
Conditional 3rd round pick
Barkevious Mingo

Browns Receive
5th round pick in 2017
Jamie Collins
James G

We've ripped the Pats off twice in a row now. Paying a premium for a QB wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

Sitting behind Brady, and playing for Bill doesn't mean squat. He's an unproven QB.

I'd rather keep two seconds, and pick our own guy.

Since that has worked real well in the past 16 years.

Never said it did. Watching the film that was posted he looked like he could play. Super small sample size, but let's not forget that he was himself a 2nd round pick. It's not like the guy is Matt Cassell. He had hype.

Every single QB drafted is an unproven QB until they play in the NFL. They're all risks until they're not.

You aren't getting a proven franchise QB for 2 second rounders. Will never happen.

Matt Cassell took multiple teams to the playoffs. His hype was that when Brady went down week one, they went 10-6.

What did Jimmy do? Look okay for three games?

Taking a QB in the second is better value than getting fleeced for Jimmy but Justifying it when including two other trades doesn't take into account that you're spending 2 picks in an unproven commodity.

Edit; typing on phone so trying to be brief. Apologies if coming off insulting/argumentative.

Ok, but Matt Cassell's value was solely because of what he did in the Patriots system.

My point is that Garrapolo had value before he ever became a Patriot. If he was in this draft he would certainly be at the very least a second round pick so I'm not sure why you're so against him. What QB, specifically, are we taking in the second round that has proven more than Jimmy G in the NFL? None of them.

He looked a lot better than ok in his small sample size as well.

Have you watched any of his film? He has great qualities as a QB. Checks the boxes on arm strength, accuracy, mechanics, footwork, progressions. Deep ball & under pressure are unproven if you want some negatives. Measured in at 6'2 212 at the combine (listed 6'3 225 on NFL.com).

He is ahead of the game in development by learning behind Brady and would certainly be welcomed in Cleveland warmly given the right price.

I don't think people get this. Jimmy G was a great prospect before showing out this season and learning from McDaniels and Brady.

He was such a great prospect no team had a 1st round grade or 2nd round grade on him.

Pats reached on him with the 62nd pick, they'll be lucky to get a pick of equal value now that he's a year away from free agency.

Listen, id try to parlay the kid for a better pick based on the 6-7 quarters he looked like the future QB.

But sample size as related to trade value doesn't always match up, despite what Patriots fans would (incessantly) have you believe.

As a guy who hasn't followed the NFL too closely for about the last decade...

With regards to Jimmy G., can somebody give me some names of backup QBs being traded (or leaving during free agency) who then went on to become really good starting QBs? All the ones who immediately come to my mind ended up being busts or below average as starters. But I'm sure I'm forgetting somebody.

Immediately comes to mind is Brett Farve. Atlanta backup, traded to Green Bay.

Part of the value of draft picks is that you get them locked in on rookie contracts for 4 or 5 years. You don't get that with JG, you get the opportunity to hand him huge bags of cash in a year or 2. That's one reason why, to me, he's not worth much more than what the Patriots paid for him (the 62nd pick in the draft), if at all.
