2023 Browns Off-Season Thread III: Summer Slumber

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I definitely didn't see it happening... but then the preseason Chiefs game happened and sealed his fate, IMO.
tbh I didn’t think he would get cut either (always thought he should be). I’m more talking about whenever people speak so matter of factly that they basically imply you’re a total moron if you disagree. Things like saying “this isn’t Madden” to someone you disagree with only to be wrong later

Kind of proving it was actually Madden the entire time

Very relieved. Also interesting the amount of certainty so many posters spoke about that this would not happen

Just tag me next time :chuckle:

I'm going to let you in on a little secret real quick...

My predictions have no bearing on anything for me personally. I could say X, Y and Z are all going to happen for the Browns and they could all not happen and I genuinely won't care in the slightest if the Browns win anyway.

The same goes for being right - I could say I think A, B and C will all happen and they could all happen, but if the Browns lose it ain't gonna make me feel better.

Predictions aren't anything. There's nothing at stake. I will gladly trade being wrong 100 times out of 100 in exchange for wins, ya know?

My only feeling on this York/Hopkins move is "I hope Hopkins makes his kicks" and literally nothing beyond that - I don't feel in any way, shape or form silly or bad or upset or anything like that for saying York wouldn't be cut. Why would I?

What I think should or will happen in literally any scenario doesn't mean shit to the actual tangible things that happen.

Can we maybe not derail this (or any other) thread into a pissing contest about who was right and who's got bragging rights?

The important thing is that we have reason to be a lot less worried about the kicking situation in Cleveland than we did 24 hours ago.

Let's leave it at that.

I think that when people speak so definitively like:

Right or wrong, York is not getting cut before the season.

He might get cut in the first month of the season, hell it might happen after the first game. But he's going to be given the opportunity to succeed or fail in games that actually count before they cut the cord.

Then they're setting themselves up for some ribbing when they're wrong, and the problem isn't the posters like @The Wizard of Moz pointing out how incorrect the discourse was leading up to York getting cut.

Ideally, the discourse next time improves.

And, people like @CBBI can take it in stride, because he knows it's of no real consequence. Let them have their moment of fun.

All in all, Cade ended up costing us a 4th and a 7th. That's a costly mistake.

Believe me, if Hopkins makes 85-90% of his kicks this year, every single person on this board - even @Triplethreat (!) - can laugh at my expense for the entire year and I genuinely will welcome it.

But of course I'm gonna be as definitive as possible in what I say at all times because ultimately what difference does it make?

"Oh gosh, I'm upset because I lost the respect of a complete stranger on a message board because I got it wrong!" is a genuinely goofy way to live your life, ya know?

You’re not the only one who does it and you’re not even the biggest offender which is why I didn’t tag you, but yes I do think you do this.

I like you as a poster and think you put in good research. I just also think when someone disagrees with you a lot of times you’ll treat it like how could anyone be so foolish to have such a terrible opinion. That’s really the only part I care about. Everyone on this board is a pretty solid analyst imo, things like ‘this isn’t Madden’ belittle that

I always learned to not speak things as fact unless you know them to be.

"York won't be cut until the regular season"
"I don't see them cutting York until the regular season"

Those are two very different statements to me.

To some people, those are identical and they'll say I'm splitting hairs or being pedantic.

I'm not saying you need to adopt my view--just explaining where I come from on this.

They didn't cut him per se, they are 'giving him a chance to catch on elsewhere'. Bill Belicheck does plays solids like this all the time.
Cade should go on to be one of those anti motivational speakers at schools

The ones that go and say drunk driving ruined my life, don’t be like me

Except his should be about the dangers of getting a lobotomy before starting your professional career

The two statements are obviously not identical at all.

It just doesn't really bother me at all to be very adamant about something and end up completely wrong. I have no skin in the game, ya know?
