2023 Browns Off-Season Thread III: Summer Slumber

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Stefanski confirmed today that Walker and Takitaki should be good to go for week 1. They've both been practicing for a while now.

So theoretically you have JOK, Walker, Takitaki, Fields, Adams and Diabate all healthy and ready to go.
That’s great news on Walker and Taki.

Taki really came on strong last season. Would love for him to have a full healthy season in Schwartz’s system so we can make the right read on if we should extend him or not

No thanks!!!!
Can’t help it. One too many coffees and just sitting here next to the AC unit posting any tweet about LB’s that cross the wire.

Seeing the Vallejo tweet gave me flashbacks of the safety we hit from Minnesota who was supposed to be the vet stabilizer in the bs k end for us and instead was Toast in a regular basis. What was his name again?

Sendejo!

He was a linebacker/strong safety hybrid in Minnesota. Then the Browns lost Delpit to the achilles injury so they put his slow ass at free safety. Good times.

Ah yes.

I remember us all binding together in cursing his name countless times in his 2 seasons here.

After three partial preseason games I can confidently say Thornhill is the best free safety of the "new Browns" era. The pick 6 was great, but he's also in the right position to make a hit right when the ball is delivered pretty much every play. Feels like I've been cursing free safeties for over two decades.

Goodwin being healthy puts Watkins roster chances on life support..

With Ward’s health in question, I do wonder if they keep 11 DBs now — either bringing in another CB or 5 safeties (with two of McCallister, Bell and Hickman making it)..

Side note, them announcing that Goodwin is going to be ready for week 1 is lowkey way under rated. He's such a threat when he's on the field, teams have to account for him or be potentially be burned. And as we saw on Saturday, DeShaun still has the deep ball in his pocket.
Surprised more people aren’t talking about this. It felt like he was basically counted out of the 53 due to the blood clots.

What is the short term IR that doesn’t take up a 53 man roster spot? Wondering if they don’t continue to take a safe/conservative approach to integrating Goodwin back to full speed practice and then if all looks well, activate him around week 6 or whenever he’d first be eligible to return to the 53?

While I'm rooting for Watkins to make the team, part of me feels like his narrative has reached Ben Gay proportions. I think he has a lot to offer as a pro, but I hardly think he's going to be a pro bowl or anytime soon.

We’ve been WR deprived for many years. So it’s natural for people to get really excited at someone unexpectedly balling out and making plays in TC and preseason games.

The irony though is that now with Cooper, Moore, DPJ, Tillman, Bell, Goodwin, and Watkins, the need for Watkins is not near as high as it would have been in previous seasons amongst the past ten. But our mindsets are still in the past so it’s making it a bigger issue than maybe it needs to be.

If the staff and FO thinks he is one of the next 6 though, I’m all for him making the roster. Just don’t think it’s some abomination of judgement if he doesn’t end up in the roster or practice squad

When I see that list, it just makes me want to plant the Watkins seed even more.

Will Coop be here next year? Don't know. Will DPJ be here next year? Don't know. If Moore has the year we're all expecting and hyped up for then he's prime ready to demand a huge contract extension in March... like, that's right around the corner. I know we have another year under his rookie deal but decision on the commitment will probably have to be made next offseason.

We don't have a 1st round pick next year. I don't know what Berry will do with the WR contracts but there's a chance for significant turnover in that room very soon. I can only go off what I've seen of Watkins... he looks like that guy to me so I want to keep him.

Cooper, Moore, DPJ, Goodwin, Tillman, Bell, Watkins. I'll shave off from somewhere else.

Are you saying you have been Freely cursing at free safeties safely?
