2023 Browns Off-Season Thread III: Summer Slumber

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
So we’re keeping Grant with the chance that he can return? Didn’t we do the same thing with Michael Woods? Is there a limit to how many players we can have on IR at once?
He tore his patella, there is no return for this year.

I believe there might be a select few that can return off of IR, but I don't think there is a limit on the amount of people on IR.

Grant is out for the season. Stefanski confirmed it today.

No limit for IR but IR to return is 8. When they return is when they count against the 8, you don't have to designate them to one of those spots before hand.

Why haven’t we released him yet? Or Woods? Is it financial?
Because we haven’t had to yet. Of course you use every available minute and option to decide what is the best way to handle things.

You can be sure that whether released or on some sort of season long IR, he will not be taking a spot on the 53 man roster

Doesn't really matter. IR means roster spot isn't used up and I believe IR also means his cap hit is lowered.

Basically, rehab on the Browns dime if possible. It's a good thing to do for a dude who has been in hell since he's been here.

Side note, them announcing that Goodwin is going to be ready for week 1 is lowkey way under rated. He's such a threat when he's on the field, teams have to account for him or be potentially be burned. And as we saw on Saturday, DeShaun still has the deep ball in his pocket.

Not sure if he’s good enough or a scheme fit but with the injuries at LB. I know we’ve been talking about potentially bringing in a LB.

Or do the injuries just allow us to active roster both Fields and Diaboute and roll with the punches?

Fwiw, he was horrible last year for AZ. I’m really surprised he didn’t just hang them up.

Yeah. Literally only remember him as a name a lot of posters had their eyes on in his draft year and then maybe FA 1-2 years ago. Hadn’t followed up on his career and production much, just know that with Walker, Taki, and now Kuz all out to start the season, there’s been discussion on if an LB needs to be brought in or if it’s next man up from the guys who were with us all training camp

Feels like Matthew Adams is the early season insurance policy. He played special teams for Bubba in Indianapolis before moving on to Chicago last season. I thought he looked decent in Arrowhead yesterday.

Stefanski confirmed today that Walker and Takitaki should be good to go for week 1. They've both been practicing for a while now.

So theoretically you have JOK, Walker, Takitaki, Fields, Adams and Diabate all healthy and ready to go.
