2023 NFL Draft - Day 2 - Rounds 2 & 3

Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Which position do the Browns take with their first pick on Day 2?

Browns were serious about stopping the run between Ika and Tomlinson..

I think there's a likely scenario where Ika and Tomlinson start together next year.. Doesn't take much of a learning curve to do what Ika can do, and Tomlinson played a lot more 3-tech with the Vikings the last two years..

Think there's a bit more pass rush upside in his game and skillset than he gets credit for... He's likely a two-down player for now that can work into some passing down situations..

NFL Network flashing Danny Shelton on the screen gave me flashbacks and is even scarier when their Combine measurements were pretty similar...

Funny enough, another 22+ year old pick..

Shelton in the first round was a horrible pick. Shelton at the end of the third would have been decent. And on THIS browns defense I might even take the ghost of Shelton over what we trotted out last year

The Browns have six picks tomorrow.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they ended up not making all 6.

But if they do..

RB, OT, DE, LB, S seem like reasonable possibilities.

Any named you want to see them get?

Of the names left at DT, Ika makes sense to pull the trigger on.

I like Jacquelin Roy and Jalen Redmond, but Ika is certainly more of the 1-tech.

I don't know what's up with Dawand Jones and I'm out in Miami for a bachelor party so don't have the ability to dive in and poke around... so I'm crossing him off my board. Assume he's undraftable.

Chandler Zavala is probably my highest rated player left. I'm hoping we get him.

After Zavala, Wypler, Vorhees, Mafi and Forsyth really do it for me at IOL spots.

Lots of tackles I'd take a shot on. Jaelyn Duncan, Nick Saldiveri... maybe Asimov's Richards later on.

Wouldn't hate a tight end. Allen, Kuntz, Girndorff.

It's hard to go wrong at RB. Tons of talent left. Just don't take DeWayne McBride no matter how high PFF grades him.

I still love AT Perry.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson is still there.

Interior defensive line I like Redmond, Desjuan Johnson and Nesta Jade Silvera.

I know his testing dropped him but I'd still take Andre Carter at DE. He might be up there with Zavala for my number one target. I just think the kid can rush the passer out of the wide 9. There's still more than ten edge players I'd like available.

At LB, Noah Sewell and Ivan Pace stand out for me.

All the safeties are still there.

I know we value corners. Cory Trice for outside, Tre'Vius Hodges-Tomlinson for inside.

My two concerns with Downs:

1. He's probably never going to be much more than a slot at his size (5-foot-10, 175 pounds), with only 81 routes on the outside in his career. In an ideal receiver group, you can move people around and hunt mismatches.

2. His status as a one trick pony will require a lot of run after the catch routes, and I wonder if his body can take the punishment.
You know way more about everybody in this draft. I used to follow this more closely.

Of all the one trick pony skills to have, "getting open against man coverage and catching the ball" is a good one.
It is funny to me, in the limited things I read, Downs' comps are TY Hilton. Back in the 2012 draft the Browns took John Hughes DT-Cincinnati at pick 87. Hilton was pick 92. Travis Benjamin WR-Miami then went to the Browns at 100. (oops)

Hopefully the Browns front office has learned a few things in 11 years.

I can definitely see their thought process. A wide receiver package of Cooper/DPJ/Njoku/Tillman is a monster group of blockers/receivers with Chubb as a single back. A five receiver package of Cooper/Moore/Njoku/DPJ/Tillman looks pretty good.
