A closer look at Harrison Barnes

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
And yet you don't see me crapping on Zeller as a prospect.

Or Henson.

Or Marshall.

Do you think that there might be a reason beyond what my alma mater is?

I want KI to succeed at Cleveland.

If they take Barnes, those chances of success drop. I've seen every game of Barnes' college career, and a number of games when he was still in high school.

And taking him at 4 would be a colossal mistake.

This is what we call an opinion.

If you want to offer something useful to this forum, try saying something other than "Harrison Barnes sucks and will ruin your franchise" with every fucking post you make. We get it, you don't like him.

You'll have to excuse me for pointing out bias. Its just that pretty much every Duke fan I know fits into all of the following categories:

1. Has no actual connection to Duke (didn't go there, not from anywhere near NC, no family there)
2. Shows extreme bias towards every single Duke player, despite knowing nothing about any of the players other than the fact that they play for Duke.
3. Shits on every North Carolina player irrationally.
4. Annoys the fuck out of me.

Not saying these describe you... but when I see you post, I picture these people arguing with me about MJ being overrated.

1. Class of '95
2. Not sure exactly how to answer this, as I do root for those folks who attended Duke. But it's not like I'm advocating a trade for Dahntay Jones here. It's advocating for a 27-year old all-star vs a kid who's done nothing but disappoint.
3. There are all kinds of kids from UNC that I've liked. Hell, I feel like Antawn has been unfairly treated hereabouts ever since he came.
4. That one's beyond my control.

Can't say I've met any fellow Duke alums who thought MJ was overrated.

You mean like, say, this?

Barnes had the lowest drive stop percentage on the ENTIRE UNC TEAM last season.

And, despite having 3 to 4 inches on the vast majority of his opponents, he only averaged 5 boards a game.

For comparison, as a freshman (comparing to HB as a soph), Deng averaged 7 rpg (though playing vs PF's much of the time), averaged more assists, more steals, and more blocks, all w/ an eFG% of 52 (Barnes was 48% on eFG, which is positively abysmal for a guy whose alleged strength is as a shooter).

As for Roy's system -- one could say that it did him no favors on the offensive end, due to lack of PnR, but he was playing with 6 other future NBA players (including the leading single season assist man in ACC history), and STILL shot under 36% from 3.

Hard to believe his rebounds were cut short with three 6'9 and up potential lottery picks....

But please, lets continue to compare him to Deng's freshman college season as if there is some sort of relevance.

The 2 mouthpieces on ESPNU Draft Combine talking about how Barnes might have peaked already.

I thought I've heard somewhere that Barnes was never really a SF until college, and that he played PF for high school and still needed to adjust to SF. I think he can still improve and still has some things to learn about the small forward position.

So we're just going to ignore the fact that Barnes is right in his comments about the Carolina offense?

Whether it's true or not isn't the issue.

The issue is that it's pretty immature to blame your lack of success on both a system and the players that surrounded you.

Regardless of whether or not it's true....Got it.

Lying and being unable to state the obvious are the qualities they should be looking for.

However, Barnes is a more polished scorer compared to Deng and Barnes' shooting mechanics are way more advanced, which has led most to believe that once Roy Williams' shackles come off, Barnes can really flourish.

Deng showed a much more versatile offensive game in 1 year at Duke than Barnes has thus far. He could shoot, he had a post game and could score off the dribble. There may be some truth to the idea that the system held Barnes back, but you can't just explain away all of his struggles with that.

Again, my four points were not a description of you, so no need to get defensive. Our fundamental difference in opinion is the "kid who's done nothing but disappoint" bit. And that's okay.

Most disappointing two-year leading scorer for a championship caliber team in history apparently.

Most teams that are championship caliber win at least one tournament at some point, right? Pre-season? Conference? Random Ryobi-sponsored 4-team event?

Not necessarily, especially in a power conference.

I certainly don't think it's unreasonable to think a healthy Kendall Marshall doesn't make them a championship contender despite an ACC loss.
