Alonzo Gee: Mr. April!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

You would think he would be loyal to the team that gave him a huge opportunity to be a part of its core. For all we know he may already be wanting to come back to Cleveland but his agent is doing what agents do best and trying to chase down more money.

That word doesn't exist in sports anymore.

Especially for this type of player. He has made a relatively small amount of money so far and is entering his prime now. If we sign him to a 3 year deal at the end of it he will be 28. A small dip in performance towards the end of that contract and he goes back to being a minimum contract player.

It is easy for some vet who has made 100 million dollars to spout out about loyalty at the end of their career when they resign with their team for cheap.

And even that doesn't happen regularly which I find friggen hilarious.

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

i figured this would happen with Gee. mediocre no-name player has a couple of average seasons and thinks he's ready for the big money.

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

Actually, it does... Dirk.

Duncan.

I can see this eventually leading to Gee signing his qualifying offer. Him & his agent obviously thought the market would be bigger for him with offers pouring in. That just hasn't happened and likely won't.

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

I would assure Gee that if he signs the 2.7 QO his minutes will be sporadic next season with the addition of either Webster, or Miles at SF. If he wants to start for the Cavaliers he can agree to a reasonable contract and do so. If not then he can take his chances next season with a limited opportunity.

I don't think you negotiate minutes with a player. That is the coaches call and has nothing to do with his contract.

A rookie year with the Spurs, a two year contract at minimum salary, shows some growth in the third year and now he wants a pay day. That's Alonzo Gee. That's also Ira Newble. Let's not make that mistake again.

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

Has there been any info out there on exactly what sort of payday Gee is asking for? I've seen a lot of speculation based on what similar players have gotten and what his agent has gotten some guys, but I haven't noticed anything concrete about an asking price.

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

Ya'll need to stop bustin Gee's balls over this. For one, his agent is doing all the negotiations. And two, he's just doing his job and trying to get the biggest payday for his client, which will probably be his biggest money-making period (and maybe only money-making period) in his career. I'd do the same thing in his situation.

Nothing concrete. They haven't been fighting each other in the press, although there were some early reports (that appeared unfounded) that Gee or his people were disappointed by the qualifying offer ($2.7M). That number simply followed the stipulations of the new CBA, so there wasn't anything to complain about. The Cavs have remained quiet, although the media has reported more often about how the Cavs are not willing to meet Gee's price. No other reports have surfaced about Gee being close to signing with another team.

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

Seriously, him and his agent can fuck off. He's not apart of the long term plan more than likely.

Cavs should continue to stand their ground here.

EXACTLY.

All this talk about "Gee should be loyal," "Gee only wants the money," its all crap.

He SHOULD be looking for the most money. This might be the only chance he has at getting a long-term, multi-million dollar deal. Of course he's not going to come back after a week and take something small.

Also, the loyalty talk is just stupid. The Cavs were just the first team crappy enough to give Gee an extended look, and he took advantage.

I do agree, he should be looking to get the most money he can. However, he should be realistic as well, especially at this point in time. The offers clearly aren't there, the market is drying up, and he'll be lucky to even sniff what he was looking for to begin with.

Both Sessions & Gee have been given a rude awakening this off-season. Both put up decent numbers for a bad team (While Sessions didn't do much to help the Lakers), both wanted to get paid more than they were worth (with Sessions even wanting a starting role), and both are getting knocked back to reality hard this off-season.

Yeah, but do we know that Gee is pissed and refusing an offer the Cavs have made? Far as I've read, the Cavs haven't made a long-term offer, so why are people getting pissed at Gee?
