Alonzo Gee: Mr. April!

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

Lol Gee and his Agent upset about the Cavs qualifying offer of 2.7mill.

Well guess what? thats 2.7mill more than any other team is offering you. Soon enough you might be forced to sign with us for even less because we can match any offer. If none are offered we make our own price.

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

Yeah, but do we know that Gee is pissed and refusing an offer the Cavs have made?

we don't. people will believe any rumor they hear.

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

Yeah, but do we know that Gee is pissed and refusing an offer the Cavs have made? Far as I've read, the Cavs haven't made a long-term offer, so why are people getting pissed at Gee?

Just to be clear, I'm not pissed at Gee and never claimed that Gee is pissed & refusing an offer from the Cavs.

My comment of him needing to be more realistic was more towards your statement of him looking to get the most money he can than anything else.

Yeah, I never thought you were insinuating you were angry in any way.

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

All kinds of assuming going on in this thread. People have no clue what is really, truely happening right now. We have no clue what kind of money the FO and his agent are speaking about. Just relax. Some of you guys getting your panties in a bunch over this are going way overboard. Is it possible for fans to just back off a bit until there are actual statements made by the parties involved?

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

Gee's agent probably had a meeting with one of Grant's assistants a couple days after their midnight July 1st phone call. He likely said that since his client is going to be a starter, he should get paid like a starter and then he dropped the average NBA starting SF salary, the Nicholas Batum contract rumors, the Ilyasova contract rumors, and a lot of other mildly non-applicable stuff.

If the Cavs responded with 3 years, $18 Mil like the Magic did for Jameer Nelson, Gee would have signed it faster that Harangody signed his QO. I'm also pretty confident that the Cavs didn't make an offer nearly that big, but instead offered praises about how much they like Gee, gave some feeble excuses involving the team's need for roster flexibility, shared their willingness to let Alonzo "explore the market", and set out a standing offering that was something pretty close to 3 years, $9 Mil with a bunch of unlikely bonuses and a non-guaranteed 4th year. All guess work here. No insider information. But when I looked in my crystal ball, that's exactly what I saw happening.

How will it end? Either the Cavs up their offer a token amount (10% or so) so Gee's agent can declare victory or Gee takes the qualifying offer. But that's probably still 6-8 weeks out. Let's hope Gee is staying in shape and isn't siting on a couch, eating big mac sandwiches stuffed topped with doritos like Waiters did this spring.

Anyway, this summer time posturing is all good fun. It's nice to see agents earn there money once in a while. It only gets annoying if it turns into autumn posturing.

Douglar, big macs stuffed and/or topped with Doritos sound so effing good that I'm pissed I didn't think of that myself.

It would seem that since Gees agent said that they weren't happy with the Cavs offer. that would include Gee. otherwise he could of already signed like harangody did. Gee and his agent know that they might get better offers as a free agent but i dont see them withdrawing his qualifying offer even if they sign cj miles

Hmm....the Miles' dinner is making someone nervous.

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

The reality that he isn't in the top three of available swingmen left in free agency is beginning to sink in.

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

If he was an unrestricted free agent.. he would be signed by us or someone now... he is a good player

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

Come home, son.

Gonna end up with something around 3 yrs/$10-12 million with a partially guaranteed 4th year. Reasonable on our end, and Gee gets rewarded for his hard work with some job security.

And MYoung will complain that we overpaid for a JAG. :chuckles:

Re: Cavs make qualifying offer to Alonzo Gee (now RFA)

3 years 12.5 mil is my guess

Gee says he wants to remain with Cavaliers
Published: Thursday, July 26, 2012, 2:12 PM
By Mary Schmitt Boyer, The Plain Dealer

ROCKY RIVER, Ohio -- When Alonzo Gee walked into the Rocky River Recreation Center on Thursday morning, a chorus of young voices started chanting his name.

"Gee, Gee, Gee,'' came the cheer from about 30 youngsters sitting cross-legged on the basketball court in the steamy gym.

The free agent forward, in town for one of the Cavs basketball camps put on by the National Basketball Academy, smiled. Although he's not currently under contract with the Cavs, he made it clear where he'd like to be.

"I want to be in Cleveland,'' he said. "This is where I want to be. I love the coaches and my teammtes. This is where I want to be.''

Although he remains unsigned, Gee said this summer has not been difficult for him.

"It's not hard,'' he said. "That's my agent's job. He's working. I'm just enjoying my summer and working out. That's all I can do.''

Asked whether he'd considered signing the Cavs qualifying offer of $2.7 million for next season and then becoming an unrestricted free agent next summer instead of waiting to sign a multi-year deal that would keep him with the team longer, Gee smiled and said, "It's going to work out eventually.''

As for the camp, he said he never considered not honoring his commitment to the National Basketball Academy in spite of the fact he's not under contract with the Cavs.

"It's something I always wanted to do,'' he said of attending the camp. "It's good for me to be with the kids.''
