Browns Free Agency 2015

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He will make a nice addition to some team that isn't Cleveland.

DE Hughes drawing interest from Browns he had 9.5 sacks

Obvious connection to Pettine, got to think the Browns will be a contender here.

I would say due to Pettine connection, position need, and cap money available that the Browns would be the favorites to sign him. Many sports media outlets have projected this also. Should be our replacement to Sheard.

Getting Hughes would be an awesome addition to the defense. Sign him and either Hartline/Stevie Johnson and go into the draft looking for a NT, TE, QB.

Still got to wonder what they're thinking about doing with Skrine though. If he gets big money elsewhere, do we sign a replacement? draft one? Trust Gilbert to be the starter next year?

Hughes is a no-brainer if you can get him to commit. There's never enough pass rush. Skrine showed that he can be a capable 2nd CB with an All Pro #1 CB and a pair of Pro Bowl-caliber safeties around him. In my opinion, that is a dream scenario for any corner back to have a career year. I think the Browns can be a little more cost cautious knowing the quality of the rest of the defensive backfield.

With Gordon suspended, a Hartline/Johnson signing doesn't take away the need for a real #1 receiver. Both of those guys were #2 receivers at best last year who lost their role. I'm in favor of signing either one, but there is still a need for a #1 receiver.

I agree with your point on the receiver situation. I just don't know if we will draft one because I feel like White and Cooper will both be gone by the time we pick with 12. And at that point I would consider taking Malcom Brown at 12 and Maxx Williams at 19 (if we signed Hartline/Johnson). Look to add a guy later on that could be developed/playmaker (maybe Hardy?).

I just think Gabriel and Hawkins add speed to our receivers, if we add some height to them (via fa, draft, trade, whatever) and possibly another guy we could develop or falls in the draft, that would give us a lot of different options and plays we could run. I know everyone says "Seattle doesn't have a #1 receiver"(which farmer likes to say) but they do have a lot of different option to throw too. I think that is something we're trying to go for unless someone drops to 12 (Cooper/White). If we take Maxx at 19 we add another good red zone threat and another playmaker.

Regarding Skrine, I agree that he did have a good situation to be in, but we still need someone to step up in his place. Hopefully, Gilbert can do that and we can add depth via later rounds.

I guess it depends how much you want to help either a quarterback who:

1. Had one good game last year in McCown

or

2. The developmental QB behind McCown who in no way, shape, or form will be mistaken for Russell Wilson in the prime of his career.

And at this point, I'm seeing some very good WR options in the second and arguably top of the third round, if things go well for the Browns.

The team doesn't NEED a true number one wide receiver to be successful.

They need to continue looking for guys who can fill each role within the receiving core to ensure they've got a diverse set of weapons.

I'm cool with Hartline, go into the draft looking for another guy with some size who can give you a downfield threat.

It's nice to have a true #1 receiver but not mandatory. What they really need is a red zone target. We have nobody on this team absent Jordan Cameron who is even remotely reliable within 10 yards of the end zone.

I think Skrine is going to get funny money. Browns should look elsewhere and they also love K'Waun and Desir plus you have Gilbert to bounce back.

I can see them being cheap with a CB #2 just my feeling.

Having a true #1 helps to keep the safety honest. Opens up the middle for guys like Hartline/Hawkins. I know you hate drafting on need but if Parker and hell to the yes if White/Cooper are there at 12, you take them.

Too bad Maxx will probably be gone by the 2nd.
