C.J. Miles signs with Cavs ($2M/year, 2nd year is team option)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
A solid bench player? Who's starting over him at SF??? Gee? You have to be kidding. We overvalue Gee so much on this board. Miles is better.

Holy crap.. 2 year deal at $2 M per, with the 2nd year being a T.O? I'll take that everyday & twice on Sunday for Miles.

Very happy that Grant stayed the course & waited 'til Free Agency died down a bit & things opened up.

Re: C.J. Miles reportedly will sign with Cavs (2 years)

I'm throwing a number out there - 35 starts. Over or under for C.J. Miles this year?

82 game season? I'll say over.

CASSPI found a way to start 35/65, so I'll assume Miles won't have a problem. Even if he doesn't start at SF the entire season, I can see him starting some at SG to begin the year until Waiters takes over.

Depends on if we resign Gee or not.

If we don't I wouldn't be surprised if he started all 82 games at SF. He's better than Casspi.

The only way he gets 35 starts is if Gee doesn't sign, Waiters gets tossed in the coaches dog house, or there's an injury.

I'm assuming Miles will be pretty close to Gee in terms of ability...so i'm guessing these guys will be competing for the starting spot. If Gee comes back, I see Gee starting just because he was here first..but if his play slips, I can see Byron turning to Miles. we'll see.

I'd say he gets 50. 25 as sg and he proves he can play so 25 at sf.

I think it might be best to think of Miles as a slightly longer version of Shannon Brown.

They both have similar numbers, flashes of success, but drive coaches & fans crazy with inconsistent play and stupid mistakes.

And how many people wanted Shannon back here?
I wasn't one of them..but there are a lot.If they actually watched him play,he was not a consistant player at all..nice finisher but nothing else.
Get the Tylenol ready..

Well that is an unfortunate way to look at it, Shannon Brown is hot garbage.

I'm also less happy when I think that CJ Miles plays like Shannon Brown, but here's two thoughts about Shannon Brown/ CJ Miles:

1) Both still have the tools to be quality players and can make highlight reel plays
2) Even during their off years, they would have made last year's team better

1. I believe that is the problem with Shannon, he is an athlete, not a basketball player.
2. I think I may have been able to make last year's team better.

Re: C.J. Miles reportedly will sign with Cavs (2 years)

If a player can't overcome the adversity of NBA competition, than I think it's more due to a lack of will power and devotion than a lack of college.

Most people lack the willpower and devotion to work on their weaknesses even before they have a $4m contract in hand. It's always easiest to play to your strengths. So while fundamentals can certainly be worked on and improved after reaching the NBA, it's easier and often more productive at the College level where the player has a lot more reasons to be motivated to listen to what his Coach is telling him to do.

The Cavs want to build a culture where the players value putting in the work and competing with each other to get better - and at some point you can add players like Miles and pull them in to that culture. otoh, sometimes you add an older player and they become the one defining the culture. Hopefully, the Cavs have done their homework there, or Miles won't last long before they'll have to cut him/move him.

Even if we hate his guts playing and we can't stand him, one, he's productive. Two, he signed to a one-year deal on theory. Three, even if he's worse than Casspi, by forcing them to compete with each other they have to eliminate each other from gaining a lot of minutes.

On the downside, Miles apparently came out of high school but that doesn't excuse the fact that he had Jerry Sloan as a coach for many years. A low basketball IQ will always be a low basketball IQ it seems.

Now let's suck it up and wait for Gee to take his call qualifying offer...

In regards to Randolphs question, i honestly think Coach Scott prefers bringing Alonzo Gee off the bench and to a level, Alonzo tended to play better as a 6th man versus a starter. (although one of the statistic guru's could prove me wrong, i'm certain) I could easily see C.J. starting all year long if it is a role he adapts to best. I think Gee is the better all around player in terms of defending and passing the basketball and he'll be out on the floor during money time.

And wow on the deal amount! Miles must really want the shot to start a lot to take a deal like he is with us. Byron really must have sold the vision to him pretty well. I'd be an overjoyed Cavalier fan if C.J. somehow proves us all wrong and ends up being a missing piece to our core. The longest of longshots of course...but hey...we can dream.
