Ok. People on here are driving me crazy. There keeps being some model which no free agent fits that we are creating? From Bynum to CJ Freakin Miles to Batum.
Someone has to play on the team. Maybe state what you believe the cavs should pursuing or be doing/ how it fits in terms of wining in the long run. And who ideally (if they exist should be playing).
If not at least state what is wrong with the acquisition and what is better. At some point someone has to play. Seems like everyone is hedging so they can say "see I said Bynum would make us worse, or look we are paying CJ Miles x and he sucks". There has been little to no intelligent conversation about anyone not named Kyrie, T2 and Z2, Andy, Or their Waiter. They are not going to be winning a championship. And someone else is going to be wearing the wine and gold whether you like it or not.
Edit: Sorry "winning" not wining
Better than Casspi.
I think Miles is exciting only because he is new, he really is the worst of the 3 sf being discussed. I think Gee is way over rated by this board, and I am glad we are not over paying for him just because the fans want us to. I think Casspi is under rated by this board and isnt nearly as bad as people think, just didnt live up to expectations (inluding mine). That said, of the 3, not a single one is a legit starting sf in the NBA.
We need Gee or miles signed at this point to fill out the sf depth, but neither needs to be long term unless its a very favorable contract and neither is our future starting sf. That will come in the draft or trade within the next 12 months or so.
Those regressions match his effectiveness playing with a quality point guard. Is he regressing, or did he suffer from Deron Williams leaving? Did he stop making jump shots, or did he stop getting open looks from Devin Harris and Earl Watson?
I mostly agree with you here Lee, however Casspi is awfully bad. So much worse than I thought he was. You can guarantee if he gets contact going to the basket that he will miss the shot. 100 times out of 100. His shot really looks terrible and last year he had significantly problems making anything from distance. He is tall and long for a SF. That's where my praise ends though.
Negotiation tactics aside, I hope we show Gee the money. He was one of the most exciting parts of the team last year with his thunderous dunks, his no-fear attitude, and his improvement in his game. I am a big Gee fan and I think he deserves a good contract. Nothing too crazy, but it'd be hard for me to let him go. I'm not interested in Miles, guy's been a tease for 4 years now.

I see Miles as a possible cusp starter who might be asking for less money than Gee. You say Miles isn't "a legit starting SF in the NBA," yet he has started 159 games at the age of 25 for a team that is almost always in the playoffs. He was a prep to pros player who was labeled not ready for the NBA to start his career, hence his slide to the second round, but those numbers on a good team says he has some use. I noticed that RikSmits mentioned that Miles probably got most of his stats against second teams, but under Coach Sloan, Miles actually got plenty of burn with the first unit as the fifth option on the floor and defensive specialist. I think that is the role Gee played best: let the guards be the playmakers, make your open shots, cut to the basket, and defend opposing wings.
Interestingly, Martell Webster is still out there in free agency. Webster was taken in the lottery of the same draft as a prep to pros player, and he has very similar career stats:

I'm not saying Miles is an everyday starter in the NBA, but it seems like the Cavs are looking for short-term help at small forward. It seems they want Gee in that role, but they don't want to overspend on a part-time starter/bench player.
If the price for Miles is right and he really doesn't want to be in Salt Lake anymore with a coach that has lost his trust, the Cavs could do worse.
