how many times in the history of the franchise have we acquired (through trade or free agency) a player as good as Luol Deng while he was in his prime? Once or twice? Consider that we gave up less to get him than Paxson gave up for Jiri Welsch.

He also made the trade that even allowed us to draft Kyrie.

LOL

you do no Deng can walk? His hasn't signed long term.....if we don't finish is one of the playoff places i am 100% sure he will walk and i can even see the lakers offering him a good contract to play alongside Kobe/

I don't think the team is in a horrible position talent wise. I think the biggest flaw is the roster is incompabitble. Your two most crucial pieces don't play well off each other and both need the ball in their hands. You have a serious lack of floor spacing that Bennett was supposed to solve (good luck with that). I'm not going to feel good about a roster with small guards and lack of shooting. I still think its possible Grant could redeem himself, but I don't think its likely.

Considering the draft picks we have had it is horrible. Reading other fans opinions about the cavs 90% of them say the cavs messed up their rebuild and should have done/be far better than they are

How can you be 13-24 in a pathetic eastern conference where most of the teams are tanking for this year draft, after having two number 1 picks and 2 number 4 picks? When you are that bad, there is something wrong....

The likes of OKC and the Pacers all made strides in the third year of their rebuild and Paul George was taken 10th in the draft, hibbert 18th before anybody says the pacers had high picks

He hasn't been overly successful at accumulating talent. He's done some good things there, TT and Waiters both have talent, and while I think their ceilings are lower than a lot of people here, they're definitely not scrubs and can play. Outside of top 5 picks, he really hasn't found any way to add talent to this team (besides Deng and that only may be for a half year). Drafting someone in the top 5 is the easiest way to add talent. Where GMs really prove what they're worth is adding talent creatively, when they don't have the luxury of a top draft pick. Look at the top teams in the league, they all have added serious talent outside of high draft picks. Something Grant hasn't shown he has do. Zeller sucks and his FAs have flopped big time.

Again, the talent he has put together doesn't mesh well in my opinion. I'll see if he can make a move or two that gets talented players who do mesh well, but I'm not optimistic about that happening.

Houston taking chandler parsons
Spurs taking Parker and Ginobli
Pacers - hibbert, geroge and stephenson
okc - ibaka

no surprise all those teams have great GM's and all those teams bar maybe Houston are serious challengers.

Slept on post......

We're as bad as teams that are tanking and we're supposed to be going for a playoff push this year. We have Kyrie and now Deng. That's two of the top 10 players at their positions. Call it what you want but I dare someone to deny that we are clearly better than any of these teams

Bobcats
Celtics
Raptors
76ers
Wizards
Suns
Nuggets
Kings
Jazz

None of those teams have two All Stars. We've had more high draft picks the last 3 drafts than any team in the whole freakin league. We have more assets than any team in the whole freakin league. Why are these teams better than us. And if you do think we are better than one of those teams then pick one. We could break it down and I could show you how any one of these teams is set up to contend faster than us and we've been rebuilding for 4 freaking seasons.

If you want to put it all on the players then why are other teams who have less talent playing better than us?

Why are the Suns better than us?
We are worse than the Bobcats. The fucking Bobcats.

Please, those of you saying it takes time give it a rest. It doesn't take time when you have multiple high draft picks, cap space, All Star, no bad contracts (Jack maybe) but how much do we need to be good again.

What more did we need during this rebuild. Everyone was crying when Lebron left to build through the draft because no FA will want to sign here. Well we went the draft route and somehow we're as bad as we were the last two seasons.

Are you telling me that we should wait another season or two for our players to buy into Mike Brown? In two years none of these guys are going to want to play for him and he's here for 5 YEARS!!!!!

This is bullshit, we are as bad as teams who are clearly tanking.

Have you watched the Cavs at all this year? Zeller has looked good, especially the past few weeks.

Very well sad

draft picks and hiring mike brown has been the main problems.

bennett and waiters were poor picks....

Waiters was not a poor pick.

For another team that needed him maybe

For us after we drafted Kyrie and lacked a low post presence and a SF sure we needed another ball handler with the 4th pick in the draft

We were too early in the rebuild to worry about position and fit, you get the best players or you end up with Darkos instead of Wades and Melos. We had just fallen apart with the best player on the planet because he was the only one who could reliably create a shot. We drafted a player that could do a lot of things, and do them well, instead of a project big that looked like a disaster in college, or a SF that can't do anything besides shoot.

That wasn't a bad pick.

Kyrie is supposed to play 48 minutes?

Mike Brown, Anthony Bennett , Jarrett Jack..... Really bad summer for Chris Grant

I've been pretty consistent with this. I even made a thread. Take the season in 15 game blocks and look for improvement from block to block.

block 1: 4-11
block 2: 6-9
block 3: 3-4 with 8 games left to play. My goal all along has been to play over .500 in this block and improve from there. So we need to go 5-3.

Nobody expected a straight line from three seasons of 24 or less wins to winning basketball. Half of our roster has never won more than 24 games. 5 guys between them had 2 games of NBA experience. That's 1/3 of our roster.

Mike Brown didn't say he was going to come in and start wining on day 1. He said he was going to rebuild our culture then start winning games with our new identity. It's a longer process than going for wins from day 1. And one that gives a better foundation to sustain wins.

The easiest way to lose in this league is to come out and not give 100% effort in a game because you expect to win. That's what we did last night on both sides of the court. Our focus as a team was so bad we shot .478 from the foul line. It can be a good thing for the team's growth to go through a game like that.

I've said a few times lets see how we bound back tuesday. Did we learn our lesson? We find out tomorrow night.

Cant say this yet . But Bennett could possibly be the worst rookie season for a healthy #1 ever

Going by win shares, he's on pace to have the worst season for any player in the last 40 years. I'll be pretty thrilled at this point if he can just avoid that distinction.
