Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Yeah, JT Barrett isn't an NFL prospect.

Really? Why?

Too small? Too injury prone? He seems like he throws a decent ball to me and has good mobility.

I think he'll get drafted later on, but he lacks the physical skill-set to ever be a high pick.

Not enough arm, long release, not overly fast. Always will be a guy who relies on incredible football IQ. That alone is going to make him draftable, but I don't think he'll ever get to a point where we're talking about him as an early rounder.

give or take but you get the point. although i'm not sure if the point is that Barrett is a NFL prospect or that none of our QB's have been NFL prospects. haha

It is still early for JT, but if Troy Smith was a 6th round pick, I don't think JT would get drafted that much higher.

Yea I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. It's like saying Spam is more edible than dog crap. You don't want to eat either but 1 is definitely more edible.

It's cause he goes to OSU, majority of Browns fans want to take an OSU QB. Why? Look at the QBs we've gone through, what's one more? Don't believe me, just listen to sports radio in Cleveland.

I dont necessarily want an OSU quarterback, sure it'd be cool, but I think part of it is just I watch OSU games so I know more about their QB's then others. Other then luck there's very few QB's that have come out lately or prospects coming soon that really impress me. Given i'm not a professional analyst.

Can anyone explain to me why you have a strong feeling either way about the Brian Hoyer vs Josh McCown discussion that's raging on Cleveland Sports Talk radio. I just listened to the RBS at lunch where Rizzo, Je'Rod and Pat McManamon were complaining about picking up McCown who was 1-10 last year as a starter. Hoyer was 10-6 as the Browns starter over 2 years. That's their basic argument. No consideration is given to fit, money, organizational structure. Nothing just 1-10 vs 10-6.

I mean I'm not exactly stoked McCown looks to be the starter next year but I view McCown and Hoyer as the same guy. MAYBE, MAYBE Hoyer is slightly better but if I had to grade them, Hoyer is a D+ and McCown is a D. Why are people spending so much time on QBs who are bad?

I mean, because it's Cleveland Sports Talk Radio.

Why are people spending so much time on QBs who are bad?

Because the Browns do?

But for real, I don't think McCown is THAT terrible. He absolutely the worst set of circumstances a quarterback could ask for last season... I know he's no world beater, but could be average at least.

Aside from a better offensive line, I see no reason why McCown has any better circumstances here.

For him, that's a pretty big change in circumstances. Assuming the line holds up all season, of course.

The circumstances that are worse in Cleveland? There's a few...

Make no mistake, if McCown plays he will be as bad as everyone else we've ever had take snaps from center. He's no improvement at all.

I just hope they have something else up their sleeve.

Yeah, I'm out of town and don't have the kind of job where I can listen to sports talk during work... but I can speak to the general tone that has come from media covering what happened with the Browns last season, and why there seems to be a negative backhand coming back to the franchise in how they dealt with the QB situation.

Nobody should be assessing what McCown has as assets to work with, free agency doesn't start until Tuesday and the draft is over a month away. He should have better assets around him, but nobody knows yet. Nobody should be grading Hoyer or McCown because we haven't seen what Hoyer's new situation is nor what he accomplishes in that situation. Same can be said for McCown.

What the media CAN comment on is the double speak that came from the organization last season, and the expectations coming from Haslam and Farmer that they can do what they want, treat employees as harshly and unprofessionally as they want, and then tell the media different narratives that do not match the sources around the NFL. I think a pro like Pat McManamon is telling it like it is because he wants practices from the top of the organization to change, and he is in a position to nudge the powerful into a position of change.

And frankly, I'm not exactly sure of what is being said today. I'm teaching ATM.
