I'm not sure the future guy is on the roster now, available in the draft, in free agency or via trade.
And that’s the problem. You’ve got a staff that is going to be feeling a lot of heat from a trigger happy owner and most of their options of fixing QB are awful… and this team is going nowhere without fixing QB.
Outside of the top 2 guys in the draft, the QB options there are sketchy at best. Manziel is a sunk cost. Hoyer isn’t a long-term answer. The free agent QBs are mediocre; none of the younger vets have gotten it done at the NFL level yet and if Josh McCown is the best option of the older guys… he just got cut by the Buccaneers. All trade options like Glennon or Foles would involve bringing in a guy their current team is actively trying to replace for a reason.
That’s why I keep coming back to Farmer making a big play for Mariota. By the end of his work with Mariota, Kevin O’Connell is probably going to know more about him than just about any coach employed in the league not named Chip Kelly. If the QB coach thinks he’ll make a good transition to the NFL, he needs to be the #1 option, even if it’s just because the FO should be so uncomfortable with all the others.
