Farewell to Sergey Karasev

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

The decision to Play DELI and JACK and give Karasev 0 minutes is unforgivable. Chis Grant set this franchise back in so many ways by re-hiring Mike Brown. Unreal.

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

Jack has never played this bad in his life.

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

I just wanna know how people know so much about this guy. Is he doing well in Canton?

45.3% (43.3%), 80.6%

13.2ppg, 4.3rpg, 2.5apg, 1.23spg

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

I'm guessing he isn't playing because he doesn't have NBA strength yet, but I predicted at the beginning of the season Brown wouldn't want to play him. Once fans see him make shots and play exciting ball on the offensive end, they wouldn't want to see him return to the end of the bench. Still, this is the exact scenario you need him to play. The team can't put Gee and Delly out there together.

I don't get it, at all. He might be raw, he might not be a guy we're seriously ready to put in the rotation. But two of our top 4 guards are out (I'm not even including Jack anymore, he stinks), and he can't get any burn time? Not 10 minutes even?

That doesn't speak very highly of his future here moving forward to be honest. It's not because I think he might be that bad either, I just think we might never really know.

You can play raw players in small stretches with certain lineups on the floor to at least see something. Mind blogging our coach doesn't want to see anything from our other 2013 first round draft pick. Hell, he barely wants to see much from the number one pick in the draft.

You have to understand Brown's philosophy on developing raw young players. He knocks them down a few pegs the first year because that is usually what is needed to get them to listen to the coach. If these guys were given ultimatums from high school or college coaches, the player would win the power play. That is the reality of youth coaching these days. He shows them that being catered to because you have some height and skill is over now.

The problem with Brown has been adapting to a situation where most of the roster also happens to be very young. Just like his rigid approach to defending the pick and roll, he leans on what worked in previous situations. He lacks the vision on development to try different approaches than what has worked for him in the past with mostly veteran and successful rosters. He is formulaic, and the league has a good read on his formula.

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

Playing a player you know isn't good rather than trying out something unfamiliar is a classic Cleveland sports pitfall.

When you have so few guys that can shoot the ball at a decent clip from the perimeter and two of them are out, you have to give Sergey some minutes and see what happens. That Delly, Jack, Gee 4th quarter line up was classic. Toss is Deng's shooting woes of late and things get even more dire.

I was hoping the Griffin era would see the end of Mike Brown trying to bury Bennett and Sergey as much as he could, but so far so bad.

I understand what you are saying, but I don't think Mike Brown needs to break down Karasev. There may be cultural or language barriers, but he's a talented basketball player that is ready despite his strength limitations. He isn't a typical rookie. He didn't grow up in the me-first toxic environment of AAU basketball. Sergey grew up with a father who taught him how to play with great fundamentals and an unselfish style. He has been playing professional basketball, more or less, since he was a teenager in the FIBA club system. His FIBA coaches (including his father) are very well trained, and they demand respect in a very structed environment. Sergey understands team play and hasn't been coddled. He's ready to get some minutes, particularly with the injuries to CJ and Dion.

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

It's not quantum physics. CJ and Deon out. Delly and Jack not hitting shit. Put Sergey in! It is not that complicated!

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

I'm prob going to get some hate for this but....
Maybe he's not playing because he's not good enough...yet

Like I don't hear about him killin it in the d league

He's sooo young right now, he's just a kid let him sit and grow and build some strength

Anyone recall how bad Bennett was in the beginning of the year? I'm guessing he would look way worse

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

They should have kept him overseas if he wasn't going to get some playing time. At least he would have gotten game action and improved. I'm afraid this season
has done nothing to help him grow in any way. Yeah he's played what 5 games or so in Canton,,,big deal.
They've messed him up like they have screwed everything else up this year.

Maybe he's too selfless of a player that he doesn't stand out. And I didn't know that perceived success (or lack thereof) in the D-League is a litmus test for success in the NBA.

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

They really needed something from outside. Jesus, aren't you glad they didn't trade Waiters? Sergey should really be getting some burn because Jack is not getting it done, and Delly is struggling too.

You can use the real numbers and still support your main points.

Karasev has played 13 games (solid minutes) for Canton and 18 games (very limited minutes) for the Cavs.

Re: Sergey Karasev - #10 - the Invisible Shotmaker!

Jack has never played this bad in his life.

Which is why I've basically transitioned my hate for the way Jack is playing on Mike Brown. Mike Brown is letting Jack do literally whatever he wants out there with seemingly no consequences, and it's leading to Jack playing like hot garbage on his best nights. If I were coaching this team and Jack passed up an open three to dribble in one step and take a contested two, I'd yank his ass and he wouldn't see the court until he realized that was a stupid basketball decision. He's a veteran. You can't let him get away with that shit.

No. Why he wasn't traded for anything is hard to comprehend.

It takes two to tango. If we offloaded Jack for an equally bad contract, what's the point? If we had to package Zeller with Jack just to clear his payroll and get nothing in return, is it worth it? Because it seems like those were the situations we were looking at. The fact that Jack has been so terrible this year certainly didn't help us in trade talks, either.

I have no doubt that, had we gotten any reasonable offer for him, he would have been out the door in a heartbeat.
